I looked up the websites like impact guns and noticed that they sell their guns much cheaper than the actual retail price.

Do you guys buy gun online or inspect them in person at a local gun shop? Also which can be seen as a cheaper or more convenient means for buying guns?

Ever firearm I have ever wanted I can buy at a matching or lower price localy. All firearms are 10% over his cost.

I agree with browneu.

Used, not unless it's rare

New, You better believe it!

Only ever bought two online though...

Not very often as I we have great gun shows here and I can usually meet or beat on-line prices and I get to inspect what I buy first.

But sometimes on-line is the only way to get what I want, then I will do it.

Yep, what he said. Around here, $500 firearms magically become $600, and $1000 firearms become $1300... So of course I order all new my new stuff, and forgo the magic option. I find the Glock dealers don't like it when you order your Glocks elsewhere, one even commented that they carried the pistol I ordered... Yeah, for $100 more!

Now, I can't seem to find used ones for less than new prices. Used to be I could get a G17 for $300, but not anymore. 2gen. pistols sell for $50 less than new 3rd gen. ones. They also lowball you for any sale, so because of that, used firearms are rare here.

The last good deal on a used firearm I got was a DSA FAL. It was new, but previously owned. I got it for $1000 even, they were selling for $1300+. This was in 2008.

I want a Smith 10mm auto, but I can't find one around here, and I'm afraid to order one sight unseen online.

I wish we had great gun shows here. They aren't like the ones in the South. When local dealers go to them, they usually charge MORE there than they do in their stores. When confronted, when asked for the store price, they won't give it to you! They give you a line about how it costs them more to carry it to the show and set up the table instead.

Gun shows in WA are where you go to find $80 30rd. old, used FAL mags, and $50+ 33rd. Glock mags. Not many good deals on firearms either. They are there, but you have to cover 1million sq. ft. to find a few.

No. I like to hold them and check them out when I buy.
I like to go to gun shows or meet a seller at the range and chat.

There's too much good to give up for online convenience.

I do buy some components for reloading and such online though.

most of the stuff i collect isn't on the shelf at the LGS and way overpriced when it is so i buy the majority of my guns online.
if i bought generic remchesters it might be a different story, but i mostly buy british sporting rifles and project guns.

I low-ball pretty much every non reserve auction on Gun Broker that isn't a rusty POS or broken 'parts gun'.

98% of the time I get outbid.

5 or 6 times a year though, I score a decent gun for SO cheap I pee myself laughing. I have scored 3 fully functional antique guns for UNDER $50.

Not any more, in contrast to late '07 through April '09.

I was very lucky, having dealt with a private seller on "GB": Mini 30, "Classicarms" (NC): MN 44 and 91/30, and "Joesalter": LE.

The only truly reliable source for an Enfield (from what I've seen) is "Joesalter.com", or at a gun show or other local deal.
My first Enfield #5 "Jungle" came from his firm in NH, but the shipping and FFL transfer costs led to my resolve to only buy in person.

I've bought several guns online, both from dealers and private sellers. I've been 100% satisfied each time. I buy more from my local dealer, though.

I purchase a good deal of my firearms online from one seller in particular on AuctionArms.com...they have very good find, at great prices. I find they are typically harsher on their grading and evaluations on their end, and the guns usually exceed my expectations...they keep my FFL on file and usually call within a day for payment over the phone via card at no additional charge...gun arrives to my FFL within a day or two of payment.

Ive only bought 1 online..... mainly because I couldnt find it otherwise. Good experience.

Ive bought around 10 from gun stores through out life... much of that time online sales wasnt prevalent.

I would prefer in person. A gun fits likes clothing and I dont like buying clothing online either.

Yes, Gunbroker is my gunshow 24/7. I've bought many used guns there, and have been greatly satisfied. Most times I'm looking for something in particular and I'd wait a lifetimes finding it locally used and out of production. If the seller has lots of good feedback, everything will be OK.
Bought some here on the classifieds on THR too.

Shops locally do not have good prices. Academy Sports, a chain sometimes has good deal but selection is limited. To prove a point, Academy has a Ruger GP100 4" Blued for $529.99 before tax, new. Local shops I visited when shopping for one of these wanted $650 for a used one, no upgrades of any kind. I ended up getting two used ones for about $875 including transfer and shipping costs and both were stainless off of gunbroker, so for me online has been better. When I was putting together my AR15 I got everything off the internet and total not including magazines which were bought local was around $620 including shipping and transfer fees. Cheapest I could have picked one up locally would have been around $1,000, again point for online purchasing.

It does suck that I can't inspect a firearm prior to purchase but unfortunately the shops around me overcharge on everything, unreasonably too in my opinion, but based on my good experiences with online purchases I will continue to do so.

The only firearms I might be interested in via online auctions are collector guns. I buy most of my guns locally. But I buy most of my ammunition thorugh online retailers with the exception of stuff that Walmart might carry. I'll pick up a box or two of ammo at a gunshop locally if I stop in to browse. I view it sort of like buying a coke at a gas station if I use the restroom.
