How do the ballistics compare on .308 out of a 14" barrel to a more standard rifle barrel? I'm sure at 350 it's still smoking, but I thought 1000+ was approaching the edge of it's usability even out of a rifle

Didn't chrono this 308.
We just got actual drops in 100 yard increments out to 500 yards.
It likely lost around 200-300 fps compared to a rifle that is 24-26 inches long.
308 is a mid-range cartridge for me.
FTR (F-Class) will use them out to 1k.
My LR cartridges that I use in SP's are in 6.5, 7mm, and 338.

For inquiring minds, I do own a rifle: LH Rem 700 SA, chambered in 6.5x47 Lapua. H-4350 and 130 grain Berger's. I mounted the new Burris Eliminator III on it and took an old buck with it. Distance wasn't far: 309 yards. Took a vid of it too.

The chamberings I use in my SP's for LR hunting are:
6.5-284, 6.5 Leopard (WSM), 284 Winchester, 7mm SAUM, 7mm WSM, 7mm Rem Mag Imp, 7mm Dakota, 338AX (338 Lapua Imp).

Bullets I typically use are Hornady A-Max's, Berger VLD's (orange box-Hunting), and JLK's, which are sort of like custom Berger's.
I wouldn't hesitate to use Nosler Accubonds either.
