The short answer is that C&R license holders are not dealers or manufacturers so a C&R license holder is not allowed to mail handguns through the USPS. I've spent a lot of time on this in the past and if you want the long version, I'll be happy to post it but the short answer is no.
So for those who do hold a C&R, what is the most economical route of shipment if you don't care about it being expedited. I understand that USPS isn't possible, but do you have to ship overnight?
I just got my C&R and wondered what the cheapest method of shipment is.

Congrats on the new C&R. To ship a handgun, UPS and FEDEX will only send by air. This is not a matter of federal law, it is the internal procedure set by each company. I have heard this was due to the amount of handgun thefts from their ground system but don't know this for a fact.
Long guns can be sent via USPS or ground UPS/FEDEX.
