Hello all, I'm new here - My name is Todd Davison. I'm a full time knife maker.
I stumbled on to this forum, and thought I would share some of my work.
Hope you don't mind? Enjoy the photos, Have a great weekend.

Edit to add.... Please read the whole thread here.
PLEASE DO NOT TRY THIS ON A GUN, UNTIL YOU ARE A 100% sure you can do it.
NOT 99% but a 100% or you will probably screw up a good gun.

Thanks!

Todd

So you removed the original finish from the pistol and rifle? If one likes that sort of thing, it appears that you did a good job.

I'd rather see some of your knives.

It seems to me that custom knives are all the rage now, but man, are they becoming expensive.

I buy custom knives from time to time, but only if they are not outrageously expensive. I also find many knives gaudy, but some I like.

Very nice!!!!! What cal? Yours, or a customers?

The rifle is a Puma 38 - 357 stainless. I custom filed it 7? years ago, had it apart a year and a half. Back together works fine, it's my brothers.
The Ruger is the first one I did of many, I only went half way around the barrel on it. The rest of them, including the rifle there I went all the way around. And it belongs to my brother. I must say here, that I do NOT do the file work any more, sorry. All I make now are custom pocket knives. :)

Thank you for the reply.

I've always wondered, about how much time does it take a knife maker per folder (like the ones you have pictured on your site)?

Very nice knives btw. I'm a fellow knife nut.

WOW. Some of those knives would be absolute works of art if they didn't look so darn useful. :)

One thing though, the rifling is supposed to go on the inside of the barrel. ;) ;)

I have a serious "thing" for knife #358, I think it was. The greyish burl-pattern wood is beautiful.

If I have the blade and spring made, I can make it in a day.
But now days I do not push it, if it takes longer, that's what it takes.

I had a guy years ago at a show ask me, " How long did it take to make the knife?" I said I did NOT know? He said " That's why they look like they do."

Thanks fellow knife nut - :D

Take care.

I see why this is sacrilege when the firearms is question are no longer produced, but when they are both currently mass produced? I see no reason for the disparaging remark.

LOL, I can't help but wonder just how many people make "shadow" accounts, squirreled away specifically for use in forum disagreements. These nearly anonymous 1 or 2 post-count folks just seem to come from the woodwork to attack or defend. But hey, maybe it really is a months-long lurker who suddenly decides to make his first post to attack/defend. :neener:
If you have an opinion to state, just make it under your known moniker; people won’t think less of you for it. ;)

Getting back to topic, I must say this work is unique and rather exquisite.
I can honestly say I've seen nothing even remotely similar done to period pieces such as this. While it's attractive to the eye for those who appreciate beauty, it's also no doubt a bitter pill for those who are devotees of such firearms.
I can somewhat empathize with their indignation (akin to discovering a chrome-plated M1903 springfield), though I must also say whoever did this intricate work knows their way around a file and has an incredible attention to detail!
I'm sure this quality would be found in the knives he offers as well.

Love the rifle and pistol. Beautiful work you did on them. I can't imagine how long that would take by hand.

If the rifle and revolver had historical value then the custom work was degrading. These 2 pieces are beautiful and 1 of a kind. The guy has talent. Nice work.

Jealousy of someones skill shows his true colors:rolleyes:

What are the grips on the Ruger made out of? They're awesome. I'm not a knife nut, but that folder is killer! Great pics, too. Welcome to the board, please keep sharing!

The grips are Rams Horn. Some thing mentioned above - NO historical value - the rifle was new out of box..... :)
I have done this to quit a few pistols and a lot of them new.
This type of work is not easy, and I do not know of any one else that does it?
But maybe? Someone will try now from seeing mine?

Thank you all for the replies, I think you have a very GOOD forums here. Will post more later.

I do appreciate the friendly welcome, hope you have a good day.
