Yup, from Dixie Gun Works years ago. I weighed the conical, 60 grains on the nose IIRC. I'd have to measure it for diameter, never did, shoots decent. It is hard to load, though, not much room under the rammer for it even when seated down past the bottom part which fits into the chamber. I wanna get a new loading press with a .31 caliber arbor so I can load it off the gun. It's a .31 remmy and the loading lever is pretty flimsy on it, anyway. When I plink with the gun, rarely, I just shoot 00 buck in it. Works for me. I've cut open more'n one shotgun shell for the ball. LOL

Had to use a HEAVY, clumsy glove until I put some tygon tubing over the handles. Now, I can use a less clumsy heavy cotton work glove and do just fine.

Large pic, but here's a link. Notice the plastic tubing. It's held up through multiple castings. I do find buckshot easier to plink with, but that conical has a nasty looking point on it and is heavier and would be better if ever one had to actually carry this thing for defense. I'm sure it'd penetrate better. Velocity is down around 700 fps, though, except with heavy loads of 777 which I've tested, but avoid due to the brass frame. A full compressed charge of 777, however, produced about 900 fps. I'd load with it if I ever had to rely on the gun for defense, but I won't shoot it in a brasser just for plinking. It's good knowledge, though.

Thanks for the info! It is my understanding that the old Pocket Remington cartridge conversions were chambered for the .32 Short Rimfire, loaded with nine grains of blackpowder and an 80-grain slug..... the old-timers must have concluded that this was the most potent load for the tiny pistol, and I'm hoping to duplicate it with my percussion revolver.

Mine's not real accurate. I can hit a 11.5x8" paper 5 of 5 at 25 yards off the bench. It's one of those guns that if I had to actually use it, I'd NOT want to have to do so at extended range. But, at 7 yards, point shoot hits are easy.

Here are a couple of pictures of an original 1849 mould (steel) and the ball and bullet that it produces.
I haven't weighed the bullet and will have to make some more to find out how much they weigh. Notice how the base of the bullet is rebated to allow for easy loading.

Mine works fine. Loading the conicals in my ASM .31 Remmy is a challenge, rebated base and all, but that's just that gun. It's doable, just a challenge. Probably load fine in a Colt, don't know.
