Does anyone else do this?

I have a habit of buying boxes of ammo, in calibers I don't even own. In hopes that one day I will own one, and will have a nice stockpile of ammo for it. I just see the ammo on the shelf, and if it seems like a good deal and I know of a weapon I want to own in that caliber, I buy it. Anyone else do this? Or am I just crazy?

Guilty as charged. I own several boxes of both rifle and handgun calibers for guns I don't even own (yet).

For what it's worth, I only buy ammo like that if it's at a good price or in support of a place I like to patronize. Also, since I have a surplus of tin foil, it may just come in handy some day to have extra ammo that can be sold or traded.

Umm, I did buy a few boxes of Hornady 222. Just by luck, I got a Savage model25 lightweight varminter the other day. Now I have good brass to reload. Now on to the 204 ruger.

Right now I have 3 calibers of ammo I don't own firearms for. So guilty as charged. When I meet someone who is selling ammo for a steal I figure, it is not like I am going to stop buying or shooting guns anytime soon. That just gives me a direction for the next one.

I have never purchased ammo for a gun I don't have. I presently have weapons in a total of five chamberings. I may narrow that to four as I rarely shoot my PPK/S in .380 and it's my only firearm in that caliber. I'm not a gun collector and all of my weapons have specific purposes for which I feel they are either the best available or the best I can afford.

No.
I might pick up a box or two if I'm planning to pick up a new gun in a caliber I don't stock, but I have enough clutter already, I don't need stuff I don't have a specific plan/use for junking up the place.

If I see a really good deal on ammo that a shooting buddy uses, I might buy it for him, perhaps in lieu of gas $$ or some other quid pro quo. I don't buy ammo for a caliber I don't own, unless I know I will own it within a week or two.

No, but I've been collecting .45acp brass at the range. I don't own a .45 OR reload yet. I hope to start reloading and to own a .45 soon, though. So far I've got about 2000 pieces of brass.

Guilty - I purchased a good bit of ammo that I got a good deal on prior to getting the gun that would fire it. In my defense though, I WAS actively planning to make that particular purchase.
