Does anyone else do this?

My grandmother used to encourage this kind of thing. She used buy us things as kids that would then encourage us to get something else. Or more likely would open the door for a birthday present later.

I have used this to some degree myself. I've collected parts, accessories and brass for a given gun, and when the pile of stuff gets large enough I use that as an excuse to buy one. I've not bought ammo, as I have collected LOTS of brass over the years and can make lots of common ammo sizes.

This is kind of how I got my first .22 Magnum, a round I now LOVE. A guy at a gun store quite a ways from my home accidentally put CCI maxi-Mag rounds into my shopping bag instead of the Mini-Mag rounds I wanted. I still haven't gotten back to the part of the state where that store is so I left it under my bed. I figured I may get back eventually, and I'd trade it out.

Later I was in a local gun store and I saw a screaming deal on Winchester .22 Magnum rounds, they were $1.25 a box. Yes, that was the price. I decided since I already had some rounds I may as well get some more and buy a gun for it. I bought all they had, a little over 40 boxes (how many of you with a 22 mag would spend $50 to get 40 boxes of ammo today?)

I started the hunt for a 22mag gun, decided on a Taurus 941 5" Stainless revolver. I was sold. Since then I've hhad several guns, I bought adn traded 3 Grendel P30s because I kept hoping to get one that was reliable. Never worked. I am hoping to get a PMR30 since I hear they've now solved the issue. I have another Taurus 941, an M77 All Weather, and a Taurus 72 pump. I love them all. I just wish I could come across another deal like that one. I have a $50 bill just waiting...

You are nuts!

I always buy ammo for any recent purchase. I have on the shelf: 32 S&W, 22, 22 Magnum, 38 special, 7mm Rem, 25-06, 223, 45-70 Govt., 45 auto (of course), 25 auto, 32 auto, 38-55 Winchester, 30-30, 32 H&R., and 45 colt.. let me think... is that all? Only a fool would buy ammo for a firearm he does not have. But wait! I have a box of 38-56. Let me think... I also have a box of 41 Long Colt. And 38 long colt. and 9mm. Also a box of 32 Winchester, but in my defense, that was for a rifle that I gave to my ex... I have no idea where the rifle or the ex are now. No... I did not mean to buy these, your honor. It was something in the water that drove me to this! In all honesty it was my ex wife and all her badgering that made me do this. I will never do it again! Well, at least after that box of 50-100 Winchester...

I lost my head! The 32 H&R that I have on the shelf is not mine! It is hers... the ex. In my defence, she had a pair of Rugers, with a nice holster setup when I met her. I bought her a pair of 45 colt "sherriff" models, with the short barrel, and added custom grips... 45's. But, she is long gone. I wish I had those custom 45's! But, all I have is the two boxes of 32. I will sell them for $5 if anybody wants them.

this should be made in to a poll

this should be made in to a poll, ammo for guns you dont own????
Seams nuts to me but apparently not to a good many of you, i did buy an ak bayonet and dont own an ak to put it on:p

Guilty... in my defense a ordered the two cases of Hornaday .17HMR after I ordered a rifle. In the mean time I was in town I bought a variety of HMR to test. The rifle was way late getting to me and when it arrived it was not the one I ordered (distinctive wood made ID easy). I sent it back to the dealer in Tx.. :fire:

Fast forward a year or so.

Last Christmas my wife gave me a CZ TH Varmint in.............. .17HMR:D
