I have always really liked the Kel-Tec P3AT, but I don't own one (YET). However, I have just run into the Kel-Tec PF-9, and it's attractive to me, because of the larger caliber. I have read a number of reviews, but I would love to get everyone's opinions on its reliability and reputation.

Thanks a lot!

I have a bit over 300 rounds through mine. It has been 100 percent reliable since opening the box. I've fired FMJ, Hornady XTP and flat point, truncated cone lead handloads through it and it ate them all with no problems. You WILL want to get the grip extensions for the magazines.

You will most likely want to take a box cutter and carefully shave the mold flashing off the rear of the grip and the inside bottom of the trigger guard as it can be pretty sharp and painful when shooting it if you don't

If you get one that still has the polymer magazine release, call or e-mail Kel-Tec and request the steel one. Any practice dropping and re-inserting the magazine will quickly tear up the polymer one. It was a no charge item to me and they didn't even ask if I was the original owner or what the serial # was.

Accuracy is, of course, so-so, though you should be able to keep 'em all in under a foot at 15 yards, even closer if you have one of the lasers installed.

Recoil impulse feels less than a Walther PPK in .380 or a Makarov in .380 or 9 X 18 because they are straight blow-back and the PF-9 fires from a locked breech. It's quite manageable but don't "limp-wrist" the gun. I tried it and it didn't malfunction, but with a loose/limp wristed grip, recoil WILL be painful and sharp enough you might accidentally drop it. Not a good idea if up against a bad guy who's shooting back!

Double action only trigger pull is a bit lighter than the PF-11, but still has a long throw. It IS fairly easy to get used to and it is lighter than most D/A revolvers.

I am happy with mine and carry it all the time. Hopefully I'll never have to use it.

A buddy of mine has one and he has had no problems with it.
I was gonna get the same thing but after looking at the P-11 I went with it instead. Its not much larger than the PF-9 and holds 10+1 rounds. Have had no problems out of it either.
Go for it, I doubt you will be disapointed.

brockGL, Take time to go to the sites Kel-Tec Owners Group and Kel-Tec Range, there you will see both good and bad about the PF-9. orchidhunter

I rented one, and found it reliable but very uncomfortable to shoot due to its light weight and thin backstrap.

I vastly preferred the Kahr CW9 I rented at the same time, and bought that instead.

You're kidding. You're asking gun owners if they have any opinions about a gun?

I had one until I purchased a Kahr PM9. The PM9 is so superior in shoot ability I decided to sell the KT.

PF-9 has been my daily carry for two years. Shoot about 100 rounds per month. Never a problem, I have the belt clip on it, put in my pocket, can't see it even with shorts and a tee shirt. The best!

My PF9 always functions, takes any kind/type of ammo. It is not a target pistol but made for close self-defense. Easy to conceal when wearing shorts and Tee Shirt.Meets my Three Cs; Cost, caliber, Concealment.

It's a great t-shirt weather carry gun. Mine has been 100% after about 900 rounds so far. I find the recoil gets pretty harsh after a few mags, but it's still very manageable.
