Does anyone here have any experience with the Izhmas biathlon rifle (not the basic)?

Right now, at least, I've got it in my head that maybe a .22 biathlon rifle might serve as a all purpose target rifle. I shot my biathlon basic yesterday and am very pleased wtih the results. I managed to work it down to ragged one hole groups with PMC Moderators. This has caused me to wonder about the quality of the full blown Izhmash biathlon rifle. I'm sure nobody will say that it is the equal of the Anschutz, however, it does appear to be used by a number of high level competitors, not all the former Eastern Block. I'll be keeping watch during the upcoming Winter Games. Do any of you have any experience with this rifle? What is your opinion?

Thanks

Actually, I had an up close view of 8 of them on Thursday. We're having the World Junior Biathlon Championships here in Presque Isle, Maine at the Nordic Heritage Center starting next week. The team from Kazakhstan checked into the motel where I work on Thursday. I had a chance to speak with one of the coaches for a while, and from her description, they are excellent rifles. That was confirmed by a German member of the World Biathlon Federation who said that the Ishmas guns are starting to dig into the sales numbers of Anshutz for biathlon and other competition rifles because the accuracy is comperable, but the price is much lower.

the handle came off the toggle on mine, the only problem i had, glued itback on no problem. the rear site is a little clunky, not so clunky i would spend big bucks to replace it though. i cut a tape measure up and glued the pieces to the sight, which helped a lot. of course, the reason the sight is clunky,is these things were meant to take a lot of abuse. the take down pin for the toggle system, which is simpler than the anschutz, forms a stop for whatever sight you put on it,so the zero holds in my experience. very good adjustable trigger, along with the adjustable buttstock also.lots of accesories come with it. the biathlon loads that the russians use are not anymore accurate neccesarily than federal premium, but supposedly they are primed to fire in extreme cold.you can probably shoot reduced loads, but i reccomend running a patch thru every 15 to 25 rounds,or any time you think it got stuck in the barrel.big safety lever so easy to use with gloves.be sure to open the muzzle cover when using a scope.[no,i have not shot thru it,the air pressure may open it anyway,i don't want to find out.] obviously i like this rifle.very accurate.i would like to have some magazines that hold more than the regulation for competion 5. there are some 10 rds, but, for some reason are high and fairly rare, but i have'nt looked for any lately.i would also like to stain the stock, but i am in no hurry. i reccomend it,don't think you can go wrong.

one of the cable channels used to,and still may, frequently showed winter biathlon, and you could see that several skiers has the 7-4. for something completly different, there is a story,i'll look for a link some time, that road agents forced a bus to stop in the middle of no where.this bus contained the coaches, commissars, vodka dispenser, sex slaves from the gymnastic team, etc.the would behighwaymen had the entourage with their hands up giving them the your rubles or your life spiel, when the 2nd bus with the biathlon team with their rifles topped the hill.
