Does anyone make a .223 pistol

o-o I've never heard of a gun that looks like a 1911 and takes .223, because that would make the grip WAY too long. Your options for a .223 pistol would be the one made by Bushmaster, or a single shot pistol- such as the Thompson Contender, MR Lone Eagle, or Savage Striker. But I suppose there could be something I haven't heard of, too.
I have always thought that the S&W 500 could probably withstand the pressures if they narrowed the barrel bore and put in a cylinder that could hold eight rounds of .223....but then maybe Smith would have done that if possible....now that would be a pistol...

One of the biggest mistakes the gun industry ever did was to make a .223 pistol, like Oly did.
Now the round is classified by the Feds as a pistol round, severely impacting the importability of foreign made ammunition.

They do look a bit different. The newer OA-93's don't use a buffer tube.

Silly, maybe, but lets face facts. After a nice utilitarian shotgun and maybe a carry pistol they are all just toys for us big kids and dammit I am not afraid to admit that silly is sometimes so damn cool. 
Not an autoloader, but the American Derringer Company lists .223 as a caliber choice for their Model 1. Gives you two shots, and it's much more compact than anything else you're likely to find.

Same deal for .308, 7.62x39, and most other rifle rounds I believe.

Well, there was a cartridge called .224BOZ, it was a necked down 10mm Auto case stuffed with .223/224 caliber bullet of 50-55 grains variety. It was intended for re-barreled guns like Glock 20, 1911, or HK MP-5/10 SMG
apparently it disappeared from the scene, but it can be easily duplicated as a wildcat
another European developmebt is the .224VOB cartridge, based on necked down 7.62x25 case, also with .223 bullet
I believe that Reed Custom now makes .22 Reed ammo, similar in concept to .224VOB, and available in rebarreled CZ-52's, you can see details here: http://www.reedsammo.com/Page.html
On the amusing note i just wonder, how good the .224VOB or .22Reed will work from a rebarreled PPSh-41 submachine gun
