Does anyone only have one handgun?

I'm down to 2 and a famliy hierloom,
1 auto-.380 BDA that I like the looks of and it's fun to shoot
2.revolver-.44mag super redhawk that I like the looks of and it's fun to shoot

Statistically, I bet it could be proven that the longer you hang out on THR, the less time you can maintain only one handgun in your collection.

I am trying to limit myself to two platforms single action auto:

BHP and SA 1911

and

Double action revovlers

S&W 36 air weight
S&W 66 2-1/ barrel
S&W 29 4 inch barrel

I sold all of my Sigs/Walthers/Glocks and CZ's not because I did not like them but because they what fit me best...I do plan on adding a S&W 500 4 inch barrel in the future (especially if they make the 460 in a 4 inch) and another BHP (Because it is my favorite carry gun and I want a back up for it because everything breaks down)

In the way of long guns (I know this is a little off subject) but I have limited myself to one 870 Marine Magnum and trying to decide which one rifle would be best for me. (HD and plinking only)

This might sound paranoid, but if I were to only have one handgun, and heaven forbid I had to use it to defend myself, the police are going to confiscate it until everything's sorted out. Meanwhile, I'm now left defenseless during that period I'm waiting to get it back.

No. Used to have one 45 semi-auto, one .357 revolver, one 38 revolver and one 22 revolver. For many years that was all I had and thought I didn't need anymore. But then I got out of the Army and actually got a job that paid something, to include overtime. Now I have many many handguns. But hey it's almost a hobby for me. Expensive hobby, but fun.

Well, my intentions were that my Taurus 66 4" revolver would be the one and only gun I needed. Who needs more than one gun?? Its just redundant. Two months later, an XD40 found its way into my collection, then the next month, an XDSC, then the following, a Kel Tec P3AT. I'm now just waiting for Kel Tec to produce a single stack 9mm, and then I'll consider myself complete.

Inherited a S&W wheelgun that started me on handguns. Shot it for a few months every week, then bought a COLT CCO. That's it for now. I love the Colt and I'll hang on to the smith cause it's family to me.

.22 & 9mm

i dont really count, since i only have one .22 pistol right now, but i have decided i only want 1 defensive handgun. I plan on a single stack 9 auto, something thats concealable yet shootable. I figure if i practice with one gun for years, and always have it around, should the need to use it arise, i will be prepared.

I am leaning towards a very similar philosophy ... like a Sig Trailside and 225.

BUT ... the 1911 is just too good, so maybe a 1911 and .22 conversion at a bare minimum! The comment on one gun, gun breaks, then no gun, makes since though.

I would at least have a .22 conversion for the one auto that you did have.

In the minority: quality over quantity

I've owned 3 handguns, but I've never had more than one at any given time.

Right now, my choice is a Kahr K9. I'm happy with it. It fits. I shoot it well. It will be my carry (once i get a note from my sheriff making that legal).

I may add another later. Most likely a wheel gun of .357 flavor, guessing a 686.

But first, and soon (when the ******g lawyer sends my check), I'm adding a shotgun (guess which one), a .22LR & perhaps a .30-06.

Maybe then, I'll add another handgun.

I just don't feel the need for more than one. I'd rather have one and use it well first before adding a second. Since I don't have much time for the range (busy professional as I am), I'll take quality over quantity.

To each their own.

I have only one centerfire handgun, a Glock 26. It's all I need. Cheap to feed, easy to maintain, easy to carry, and it shoots like a big gun.

A .22 revolver is my other handgun, though, and I consider it indispensible, so I'm not really a "one handgun" guy.

Common thread among people I've known with one handgun:

FLINCH!

Unless VERY experienced, regular practice with a .22 is indispensible IMO. The fact that you can shoot 500 rounds at a time without worrying about the cost is a major added benefit. You will become a better shot with 500 rounds of practice every week or two, than with 50.

To those who cannot understand only having one handgun - bills prevent me from buying another anytime soon. This is changing slowly....but surely...for the better.

So jim what are you going to do? let us know.

Lots of interesting replies. Like many, I don't think I could ever go down to one. If you read my starting post, I kinda knew that right off the bat. I will most likely continue paring down to "J's, K's and 1911's" because, at least for now, nothing else really interests me. When I get rid of everything else I guess I'll see what happens. I've got an old Police Positive, a P3AT and a Kahr K40 on their way out. When they're gone I'll have 1- "J", 2-"K's" and 2- 1911's. Come to think of it, that's actually the kind of basic battery I was thinking of, I won't need anything else! (But, when the other three are sold, there will be some cash.....;)

Only one handgun is immeasureably better than having none at all. When I was younger and an always broke college student, I only had one gun, and it was a cheap one. It was a blued Llama .45, and I still own it today. As mentioned many times in this thread, it was all I had to shoot, so I shot it often and as a result became very handy with it. I'm fortunate enough to be able to have a sizeable collection today, but guns are kinda like women...none of them will ever be as special as the first one!

i only have one centerfire handgun (model 13), but that's only cause i haven't gotten around to getting a 9mm yet.

at that point, however, i'll probably stop for a good long while - i like getting all the basics, but i mostly just shoot 22s.

I have 1 9mm, CZ 75 Retro

Also there is a Beretta neos .22 in the house "my wifes" but i use it a lot at the range for some cheap plinking.

Trying to cut back

If I had to have just one, it would be a 6" .357. Right now, I'm down to just these, but still looking for more.

454 SRH, Taurus 22wmr, Kahr PM9, Glock G26, MRI .22lr, BHP and a Mak.

Having one handgun would be like buying a single type of food, and eating that the rest of your life.
