Here's a question for you:

Have you given any of your firearms a name? It doesn't have to be a person's name, just something you call it besides "the SIG" or whatever.

If so, please post 'em. Why or why not is also welcome.

My examples:

1. SIG 239 - "Piglet". Of course, the next time I shoot it I'll have to say "Bother" when chambering a round...
2. Nylon 66 - "My little friend"
3. GF's Bushmaster M4gery - "The Bushmistress". A bit confusing because she's also the Bushmistress but context helps.
4. Marlin 39A - "Shooting iron" or just "the iron"

I've not settled on a name for the Daewoo. I'm thinking about "Kimchi" or "Bulgogi"....

Yep, I've named several. The M1 Garand is "Miss Liberty", the Mosin Nagant M91/30 is "Spike" (especially when the bayonet is attached), the MN M44 is "Mr. Pointy", the MN M38 is "Buffy", and the Yugo SKS is "Major Spearage" (thanks to the first response of a nephew seeing it for the first time).

My carry gun is named "Miss Anne Thrope." :) The name kinda tickled my pun sense, but had a serious purpose too. First, we call it "Miss Anne," and talk in circles, if we need to discuss it where others might hear -- no sense frightening folks unnecessarily. Second, the name serves as a constant reminder to me that no matter how much I like my gun, it doesn't like me a bit, and would kill me or someone I love in a second if I did not treat it with cautious respect.

My kids' rifle is "The Wizard." Dunno why, the kids just started calling it that one day and it stuck.

And I have an itsy-bitsy NAA mini-revolver with perlite grips. Named Minnie Pearl, of course. ;)

I don't have it anymore, but I had a 91/30 that I affectionately named

[expletive deleted]

No, that's not censored, that was what I named the rifle. Brackets and everything.

Yeah, I'm a little out there. It's OK.

My AK47 is named "Hillary..."

Okay, so technically I don't actually have one yet. But I will... Somehwere out there, in that great wide world of gun show loopholes, someone is currently waiting to sell me my AK. There are many like it, but that special one is mine.

And her name is "Hillary."

The old Romanian .22 is "Pinky" - For a long time, my son thought "plinking" was "pinking"

The AK47 is "The horse" - ie the workhorse

The M4gery is "Reason" - If they disagree, I hope they'll listen to Reason. (Thank you, Neal Stephenson)

The Winchester 1300 is "The B1tch" - from "Training Day"

1918 Lee Enfield #1 MkIII* Moira
1909 LE #1 MkIII Madigan
1909 LE #1 MkI*** Mathilda
1954 LE #4 MkII Sile
M1 Garand Annie
1954 Ishapore #1 MkIII* Parvati
Colt Mk4 Series 70 Mith-ang-iant (Tolkien Elvish for "Gray Iron Shadow"
Colt 1917 Rev. Big Mama
Colt Official Police Dalla

That's a short list.

I name every weapon or tool that I own, with the exception of small pocketknives, and even then they can get named if they endear me enough. I have a hatchet whose name I have forgotten, Big Cheese, a 13.5" Bolo knife, Little Cheese, a 6.5" matching Bolo, Beauty, a two-bit axe, and, finally, Chewie, my Mossberg shotgun, named after my late best friend (whose last name was "Chewning", one of his lesser known nicknames was "Chewie".).

Guilty, this is Jessica.
