If I load .45 Colt using 200gr SWC which were meant for a 1911 do I have to crimp? If it is needed, do you crimp into the bullet above the lube groove or set the bullet deeper and crimp just above the driving band?

My dad seats them just above the band. He shoots with 7.5gr Win231.

Roll crimp just over the driving band I think is best but with the bullet seated even with the case mouth a taper crimp will work too if the loads are not hot.

I use the same cast or plated SWC 200 grain bullets for .45 acp and .45 colt.

In either caliber, I roll crip slightly, just below the sholder.

Works great!! My old 25-5 loves 'um.

But... I do keep the speed down to 800 --> 900 fps.

Good Luck...
