Does releasing the slide handle/bolt into an empty chamber damage the rifle?

+ another one who doesn't think its really damaging...but I also sometimes still ride the slide on my firearms on an empty chamber.

the us military does it all the time for arms inspection. it'll be fine

I want to modify my previous statement. There are times when I ride the bolt home...but do bolt action rifles really count?
