Not to open another can of worms, but as a lawyer, CAS700850, you should certainly know a warning shot is not a good idea from a legal standpoint. (Remember the 4 Rules? Where is that warning shot going to end up? ) Nor is it good from a tactical standpoint; if shouting back to Bubba didn't reveal your position, the warning shot will. You'll have to relocate after the warning shot, and the typical mobile (or more correctly per the original post, 'pre-fab') home doesn't have too many places to do this. Factor in the potential for 'Bubba #2' in the cab with a six-pack or more in him to mistake your warning shot for being fired upon, if any of the Bubbas survive the encounter, you will be painted as the agressor.
As I stated before, (but was misunderstood ) best to warn, lock up, call the local gendarmes, load 'em, and hunker down covering entrances and monitor the Bubba's activity while still on 911. What happens next is in the Bubbas' court. By arming yourselves inside, you have determined your course of action should they advance or try to smoke you out. Leave the warning shots to the Navy and the Coast Guard.

Part of my decision to act before they get to the door is that if they look in a window, I'm toast.

I would close and lock the door, I get on my cell phone and maintain visual contact, while wife gets AK for me.(already have pistol on me) So far in this thread everybody has said hunker down, I agree with that, but you need information to A) relay to the police what is going on, that 911 record may be the thing that keeps you out of jail. B) no be out manuvered in the sense of losing track of them. Wife would get her pistol, friend shotties.

If they start circling like lions, thats fine, stay there and I'll keep relaying that to 911. They move in, hand's empty, I relay that to the police, They move in with something in their hands. I act after yelling loudly to stop and police are on the way.

However, if Bush picks up enough of the midwestern states tonight, I'd suggest something different. Grab the Garand, find defensible cover, and put a round into the engine of the truck. That should clue them in as to the faults inherent in their victim-selection process. Sounds like the guy with the shotty's too far away to be efffective with it, and as soon as he hears the first shot connect, I doubt he'll be real inclined to try.

Of course, I live in Georgia. Your mileage may vary.

I have been thinking about this and it has occurred to me that, since you have lots of tree and brush cover, why should you stay inside? If the house will provide limited protection against penetration, maybe you should leave someone at each door with a firearm and you should slip out the back door unseen into the bushes and circle around behind them. Communicate with the house via cell phone.

Have someone inside call the police, and wait. If they make a hostile move to the door, you have position and surprise on them, say with the Garand. I am not one who believes in waiting - the best defense is a good offense and all that. Just position yourself to make sure you are not putting those 30-06 rounds into your own house.

You should have bougt a skid loader so you could dig down on your 40 acres and bury the pickup and bodies. Why bother the Police?
