Does the SP101 3" come hammerless?

I saw a bobbed hammer 3" at a gun show one time but never found out if it was an after-purchase modification or if there had been a run of them at some time or another. Never saw another one though.

doesn't the DOA hammer drop into the frame with no mods? I thought the hammer assembly was available from brownells.

At one time the 3" SP was available from the factory with the bobbed hammer. Of couse it was also available in .22LR and 9x19mm among other options. Ruger has dropped a lot of options from the SP line, one of which is the DAO 3"er. Too bad, I'd very much like a 3" DAO in 9x19.

My thinking is sort of along those lines, as well. I'd think that the DAO hammer assembly would be available from any stocking dealer or, at the least, any Ruger armorer.

Way back in the day, I do seem to remember a factory DAO option on the 3", but as landric says, the line has really skinnied up of late.

I dropped a Super Blackhawk hammer into my regular .357 blackhawk with no fitting.

With the SP101 It's hardly worth calling a "model" - it's just a field-replaceable part on the SP101, as long as it's available. The only screw requiring removal is the one that holds the grip panels on.

On my S&W 37 I just put it to a grinder and made my own Hammerless. Looks good works just fine.

The "bobbed" SP101 hammer is actually really good looking from the factory as it sits completely flush with the frame when at rest.
I could never match that with a grinder, so I'd get the factory part. However, for my S&W model 10, I ordered an extra hammer assembly and ground the spur off the new one in the usual style.
