anyone know if the frames are the same
Ruger SP101 2" 38 cal. (SPNY MODEL MADE FOR NYPD ONLY)
Ruger SP101 2" DAO states 357 mag/38
I would like to order a holster for a Ruger SP101 2" HAMMERLESS
I was wondering if the dao only frame is larger between the two model?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the change lengthening the frame from 38 only to 357 occurred early on, and that they've since standardized onto one frame size. So unless you have an early 38, they should be the same. Also as MCgunner stated, either way, I doubt the difference would be enough to matter which holster is used.

All have the same sized frame, for holstering purposes. The DAO model's only external difference is the hammer. The only factor requirng a certain, specific holster would be if it has a retention device that passes over the hammer.

let see I think the gun is a early model I am retired 19 years my son is on the job let say 18 years now ;Well I did order him the holster for the DAO will see if it fits,The holster is a 4597 ranger made by bianchi
Bianchi shows the sp101 2" and the same model but adds the DAO I would think the adjustable thumb should help.
I bought a Bianchi nylon holster back then which finally gave out I find the hammer less guns do not have a large choice of leather to choose from:The Ruger gun itself is a excellent firearm I have shot it and like the gun.I myself still have my S@W chief special 38 that is my carry gun most of the time.

Thanks Wuchak, I couldn't remember when the change took place. I personally think the holster should be fine it's only slightly shorter.
