Does this actually have a use?

Not recommended for those with a touch of claustrophobia.

And if the baddies DO manage to get you, it also serves as a coffin! :neener:

ROFLMAO.

"can be customized with robotic arms, projectile weaponry"? :what:

Why not make provisions for a tank tread module and be done with it?

How would you like to be in that thing if the BG's just decide to burn your house down? :fire:

Sure as snow would melt in hell there will be folks who lay out their hard earned cash to acquire one though.

From the website;
The unit is fitted with polycarbonate plastic plating (covering/shielding). Polycarbonate plastic has many desirable characteristics for this application. The 1.25†thick plating is constructed of laminated sheets and is capable of stopping a bullet from a hand gun up to a 357 magnum caliber. This material is impact resistance and will actually become harder in the strike area when struck by a hard object. This material has a tensile strength of 9,000 psi with a Specific Gravity of 1.2. The plates for the canopy and leg cover are fabricate as separate plates and then welded together to make one solid piece. The 1.25†plating weighs 8.1 lbs/ft 2 . The head cover plates total weight for a queen sized mattress is approximately 360lbs and the leg cover total weight is approximately 600lbs. Total weight of all the polycarbonate plastic plating to be used for a queen sized mattress is approximately 1658lbs.

I'm not sure just how bullet-proof this would be. I think bullet resistant would be a better descrition. It also says it has a bio/chem filter, but doesn't give any specs.

Sounds like an expensive gimmick to me.

I can think of a couple of people who are very paranoid that might make use of it.

It also has a certain entertainment value.

No one in my house is that sick or that bored.

For that kind of coin, couldn't you just buy a used M113 APC with NBC/CBR or whatever they call the air purification system for chem, nuke & bioweapons, throw your bedroom set inside, and call it good?

You'd be mobile, too!

Price check on aisle 15--M113 Armored Personnel Carrier w/ filtration system? Being overmatched by an RPG-7 and its successors is no problem--that plastic-encased bed can't even stop .50 BMG. :p

To address the question....

Not in my part of the space-time continuum. (I swear; the ad and the price tag is enough to make milk come out of my nose.)

However, it does resemble a small and cheap version of my retirement home I plan on building. In a discrete and unnamed portion of the great American South West.
