I loaded up some rounds for a CZ P07 with 115 gr LRN bullets.Started at the suggested. Had 100% FTF. Loaded gradually heavier until I got to 3.8gr before it would cycle. This was using MAG pistol primers.
Just to check, I loaded some using Unique with a milder load and worked fine. Here is the 231 load.
115gr LRN, 3.8gr 231, small mag pistol primers, 1.065 col. Does this look OK?
Gun was cleaned and lubed with CLP.

Not sure where you got your data from but if you go the Hodgdon web site and use their on line Reloading Data Denter they list 4.3gr (start) to 4.8grs (max) of w231 for use with a 115gr LRN bullet.

Your load of 3.8 grs is very light and I can certainly understand why anything lighter would not of cycled the action.

Yea, the mag primers were the question mark for me, I didn't know how to allow for them, plus I get nervous near the max load.

I just verified your starting load in the current Speer #14 Manual and the starting load is 2.4 gr of 231 with the 115 gr bullet and std CCI sp primers. I also believe your original is too light to cycle your pistol. :uhoh:

I have noticed that the Lymnan book is a bunch "softer" on 0mm loads than Speer, to the point where I questiond them quite a bit. The reas I was given was "due to the difference" in test barrels.................I'm happy with the info I get from Speer and think I'ms going to stay away from Lyman's 9mm info.

Mag primers???? I'd back off 10% from book info as a starting point. Although I have had several people tell me that if you are loading a ball powder the mag primer should be just fine.

3.8 of 231 will run, but slide will not lock open on empty mag.
3.8 of uniqe, 2gr below starting point, will run, but not great, which makes sense. I can load up and be OK.
I am using Lyman 49.
I have alot of 231 and would like to make it work.

OK, I just checked Hodgdon website, different load for sure than Lyman:
1.10" col 4.3 start.......4.8 max.
That could make a difference. No more loads without checking a couple of sources.

I loaded up some 115gr Berrys PLATED bullets the other day using Unique. Not knowing where to start nor any OAL info I called Berrys. Their loading guru told me to start at 5.3 - 5.6 grains. It works well in my guns. I have been told by many folks that if you are loading lead and cannot find the info for your bullet start at the bottom of the jacketed info. This pretty much fallis inline with what I was told by Berrys. Speer #13 has the following starting info for 231 4.5 grs and a max of 5.0.

I looked at Lyman #48 to check your numbers above.........it shows a starting point of 3.5 and a top end of 4.9 grains.

Me, I'd start at the bottom of the Speer info for either 231 or Unique.

Smart move, buy at least one other book and check the powder web sights.

The Hodgon site has ,what I have found, to be some pretty good info.
