Does Trump's SCOTUS nominee Judge Neil Gorsuch own guns, hunt?

Unfortunately, after Gorsuch's comments yesterday about Trump and the judiciary, none of this may be an issue. He may no longer be a viable candidate.

Not at all. This is better for him.

This makes him look less like he'll be a lap dog of Trump's and distances himself from the president saying that he'll be independent. This was a good move for Gorsuch.

It also makes him look quite intemperate, IMO. It also makes me think that my first choice, Thomas Hardiman, was the way to go, especially on the RKBA. Only 51 years old.

This is all meaningless now. Gorsuch will
be confirmed and we can now only hope for the best.

That could show a lot about him.

I don't think that's the case since owning a firearm isn't always indicative if you think others should. Anyway, the issue for a SCOTUS judge is the academic and jurisprudence and adherence to the constitution more than anything else.

Gorsuch was never the best 2A choice - Hardimann was, by far. Gorsuch was a candidate for other conservative agenda items (enthusiasm for which is not universally shared by forum members).

True originalism as a doctrine is slippery, anyway. Is Gorsuch supposed to get inside the folks who came up with the 3/5 compromise? Because that right there shows how some pretty ugly political compromises were made from the get-go. The constitution was plenty flawed, which is why there are a bunch of amendments. It wasn't passed down from on high on stone tablets.

I would take Hardimann's basic libertarian philosophy any day. That seems most consistent with the overall intent of the founding of the US.

True, but it would be hard for Gorush to own a so-called assault weapon and high capacity magazine and not think that they are legal and if he were to rule on their legality, I think it would be hard for him to declare them not covered by the Constitution.

Sadly, there are many who own firearms, these included, that think only the "right people" should be allowed to. Actual support for the 2A or a clear Constitutional bias to the people is your only litmus test since all others fall prey to "fine for me, but not for thee".

What could go wrong?

I thought he did it on purpose to show he's not in Trump's pocket, which is the red herring the Dems are raising.

I don't know. It would be nice if he did, but I'll take someone who will interpret the Constitution as written over other considerations.

I find the laws very confusing? Not all judges or lawyers seem to agree on what the laws mean? There are many different translations of the 2nd Amendment issues depending on the state and political views? It appears the laws are translated by the political views of those in the majority? :uhoh:

Majority rule is two wolves and a lamb voting on what's for supper.......................the old saying says.
We're suppose to be a constitutional republic, with the power government constrained by the Constitution.
I'm cautiously optimistic that Judge Gorsuch is the Originalitst he's purported to be.
OTOH, Sessions as AG........................:(

Stoky, Yes and 20,000 lambs in Wyoming lose out voting with Democrat Coyotes every year. Yep, my hands are sweating on the steering wheel. With these new unknowns this damn road is hard to navigate.
