is there any company doctrine on that? or other written proof?

No official company 'doctrine', and they do provide pens and markers for work. Perhaps the person who told you this didn't know where to look.:p

They don't provide plasticware for the lunchrooms, however, and if you buy some there you have to keep the reciept with them.

or is it just one of those things that they wont give the employees pens to go to a seminar...
much like my job wont give me pens and pencils to go to school or to a conferance. however they are available for office use. its to prevent fraud waste and abuse which is one of the biggest shortfalls of any company.

Yes, the phone line or collect call is official official offical policy. The picking up pens when traveling for the company to be brought back and used at the home office, i couldn't tell you if that is official or just semi-official. Here is the direct quote, you be the judge on how official that is

"Most of what we do is driven by the fact that we make 3 cents on the dollar." [Wal-Mart CEO Lee Scott] said. "As we travel, we ask our employees to take the ink pens from the hotel and use them at work."

Yep. I used to work at Wal*Mart on the Overnight Stocking crew. The hours sucked, but the pay was GREAT! I had to work, (volentarily), 12 hour days for about 3 months straight, but I grossed over $2000 during those months, (Mmm, overtime). I renember on the Texlon, (the thing to tell you what to stock where, change prices, order merchendise, department annual profits, item sales record, check stock), it would regularly show an item that had a 0.05% markup on the big ticket items such as generators and such. However, small ticket items, (paint sticks for $0.88), often had a markup of 455%. Yes, they took thier cuts, but they made profit off of the "cheap" items. Considering that the night shift had access to all features of the Texlon, (price changes, halt order), all it would take is one dishonest employee to royally screw over the company. There was the capability if you wanted to use it to mark a $1000 computer down to $5 if you really wanted to. Just renember to change it back within 24 hours if you do it. A couple folks got busted for this very thing.

Working on night shift, it is VERY easy to shaft the company if you are dishonest. I never did, (but I wish I would have a couple times). Yes, you had to sign on to a Texlon using your employee ID, but often fellow emloyees would just leave thier texlon signed in and you were free to use it. If you know how to use the Texlon, it is very easy to do whatever you want. Just make sure you have access to the "inventory" menu when you pick it up, and you can make a lot of trouble. Even better if you have access to "management" :) Check out the Fabrics department, there's always a Texlon there, usually signed in too.

Also, if you ever need help in a wal-mart, pick up the intrastore phone, and press #96, and wait for beep to activate the intercom. Page for customer assistance in whatever department you are in. Note you must know either department number or proper name of department requesting assistance to.

Yes, but you'd have to find a Telxon of a fellow employee that has access to price changing functions on theirs. Usually only Mod teams, Instock Supervisors , and salaried Mgmt. have such access, as salaried mgmt. sets the access level for each user. If yours were stupid enough to do so for those who didn't warrant the trust , it's on them I guess. Only two Associates on my overnight Instock team that aren't management or Mod team have this access, because we are often called upon to step in for the ISS or Asst Mgr.

I always sign off mine when it's not in my eyesight.
