I keep mentioning my uncle, the Ex-Marine who passed last year, but it reminded me of when he came down to FL for my wedding, and we were sitting alone in the living room, and he told me he was selling all his guns. Well if you knew my uncle you knew something was wrong, because other than football, Guns, occupied his whole life. From building them to competing in matches, most of his life. I had noticed the he would forget things like stories thst he had told me before. The point is that his buddy the retired police cheif, had passed the year before, and his family was still finding guns all over the house, in the rafters, behind panels in the closets etc. So I guess my uncle knew he was getting altizhmers about 6or 7 years before it became full blown, so He wanted to make sure all his guns went whare they were supposed to. Most he sold or gave to friends, his son got one or two, but he's not into shooting even though he grew up around it, he moved to CA, 20 yrs ago, and I blame SanFran, for that. So do most of you have a list in the safe or in a box someware, so the family knows where to look should you pass on unexpectedlly? My wife knows most of mine are in the safe, but a lot of my friends over the years had them stuffed all over the place, in their cars houses etc. What do you guys think?

Not having information that your survivors can use to disperse/dispose of your collection is just thoughtless.

The relatives I have any contact with know my guns are in Ohio. That's all they know. No relative of mine has been in Ohio probably since Mt. Suribachi was captured.

Yes, trusted family member has a complete spreadsheet, with pictures. The spreadsheet has mfg, model, serial number, caliber, where located (home, safe, car, brothers house, etc.) accessories, and a lot of other stuff on each gun. He even has the combination of the safe. I also have the same information about his collection also, including his safe combination.

Now the next step is to write down where they all should go........

Wife and son have all the into in detail, It is also in my will and and a detailed list with photos in the safe deposit box.

It is especially important if you may be survived by non-gun-savvy family members. I won't forget going to a friend's house and seeing five rifles and a handful of pistols scattered on the living room floor. "Hired someone install a new AC unit and the guy found them in the attic... I guess dad stashed them up there before he died but I thought dad sold all his guns in the 80s."

The AC guy brought them down and the family, not knowing if they were loaded or anything else, just left them on the floor and vacuumed around them. They said they had been there for weeks or months when I saw them and cleared them all, told them how to store them safely, transportation laws, etc.... not a good situation for anyone.

Just the wife. She knows where everything is if I go first. After we both go, the funeral home has arrangments to turn the weapons over to a designated party and they can make use of it. There is no surviving family left that are effective with firearms and guns. And even if they were qualified, the land of state "No-Land" wont let em. But the third party I have in mind will have no issues with it.

yes. eldest daughter lives out of state and has copies of wills and other important information. she has a CD with photos and descriptions and there is another in the file with our local lawyer. If I add or subtract from the hard assets, an updated copy is sent to each with instructions to destroy the previous. I hope it is a long time before they need it but thier lives will be a lot easier when they do.

Yup.
Along with all the paperwork involved.

Heck, I think I even have all the reciepts for the guns I don't even have anymore.

my bride does, I left directions for my brother if'in something happens to my bride the same time it happens to me

Yeah, I typically have my carry weapon loaded and around me. If I am out drinking it is in the "spot"... I also know where my dads is lol.

I don't hide guns in impractical locations. They are all together, other than the nightstand gun and my daily carry.

Same here. They are all in the safe with the exception of the two mentioned in the quote above. The original boxes are in my closet with paperwork inside each box. My wife knows where the key to the safe is but won't know what to do with them. My brother will take care of that.

Until I get the cabinet built my guns are scattered around the house in closets and other places like that

Since there are no children I don't worry except theft only 2 are loaded one by the bed and one hidden in the box spring

When I get settled they will all have their place and someone I trust will know
As of know I have photos on a thumb drive with a list of mfg serials date purchased if they were sold who I got them fron who I sold to and were they are located. I have two drives and I Switch out when I get a new gun I update the one at home and put it in the box then take the one from the box update it and put It in the filing cabinet.
