Doing some CLEO sign-off research. Anywhere in the US, who got their CLEO signature?

From everything I've heard from shooter friends (and friends that actually worked at the gun range), the Sheriff in Manatee County utterly refuses to sign off. That's Bradenton, Lakewood Ranch, and Palmetto FL.

Sgt. Bueller here in Johnson County, KS signed my Form 1 on my SBR with no problem. In and out in literally 10 minutes.

Good to see this thread has not died.

I've posted a county map showing counties mentioned in this thread that has a CLEO who will or will not sign off:

NFA County Map

Green - Will
Red - Will not

I'm assuming any county in California won't so I put it all in red. If I am mistaken please let me know and I will change it.

Sheriff Gee in Hillsborough County will not sign off either, nor will Chief Castor of the Tampa Police Department. :(

County of Jefferson which is Louisville,Kentucky will sign off on your paper work. BUT they love to nickel dime you ! Let's see.... You go to the jail ( metro corrections ) & pay $ 5.00 per fingerprint card. Then you go to the sheriffs office & pay $ 20 - $ 25 for him to sign off.

I have since moved 30 miles north to the city of Lagrange which is in Oldham county Kentucky. Price of getting fingerprinted 0 zero ! Just make a appointment ! Cost of sign off 0 zero ! Chief Sparrow you are the man ! He is pro 2nd ammendment.

The sheriff of Butler Co. Kansas will sign off on NFA items and form 1's.

Nice work on the map. I'm wondering if there is any way to delineate the states that allow class II firearms vs. states that do not.

Color Tennesse all GREEN

We have a "shall issue" law and here it is....

39-17-1361. Execution of documents by sheriff or chief of police. —

The sheriff or chief of police of the city of residence of a person purchasing any firearm, defined by the National Firearms Act, 26 U.S.C. § 5845 et seq., shall execute within fifteen (15) business days of any request all documents required to be submitted by the purchaser if the purchaser is not prohibited from possessing firearms pursuant to § 39-17-1316.

I have transferred NFA items in Washington, Carter, Unicoi, Knox, Sullivan, Greene, Hawkins, Johnson and Loudon counties in TN.

I only had a problem in Loudon county, the sheriff is a retired THP and refused to sign. After the customer explained the deal, I made two calls and spoke with "someone" in the SO...he still wouldn't sign.

The customer got in touch with his state senator and congressman and they explained the deal...like it or not he is bound by state law to sign since mr. X is NOT a prohibited person, it took about 4 months but he did sign off.

Years ago...like 1989 ..I was working full time for a local SO as a deputy sheriff and my sheriff refused to sign for my MP-5. I went to the DA and he signed it on the spot.

We don't have that problem now...10-E-C is a good place to BE.

JP in 10-E-C :D

Hardin County Tx....Sheriff Ed Cain (who recently swapped from Dem to Rep to get re-elected) Will not sign. Well unless he is up for re-elction, or you are making campaign contribution, or you are part of the good ol' boy network.

Average law abiding citizen, with a CHL to boot...naaahhhhh

St. tammany Parish - Jack Strain - No
