Done buying guns...now what?

Owning a bunch of guns doesnt account for much if you arent maximizing your potential with them. Reload. Tune, target shoot. Soon you will find out what you can do, and what the guns arent capable of doing...then you start tweaking.

Why is that? If I have 10 Colt Pythons, does it really matter if I shoot all of them?

I've felt that a way a few times, but every time another SHOT Show rolls around something gets added to my "got to have" list. It's an addiction...one never can have enough firearms.

I'm getting close to that point of not wanting to buy any more guns, partially because my safe is out of room and I don't want guns I can't secure... I'm also finding it valuable to use the extra time/money to put into training, ammo, etc for the guns I already own rather than amassing more that I'll be unfamiliar with.

After a (somewhat) recent foray into the world of Whiskey, there is one thing you can spend a lot of money on!

But my bet would be to plunk some money down on training, the track days I went to for cars taught me some of the best driving stuff I know, useful even on my bikes. Snowstorms and track schools taught me everything I need to know about driving.

My next (probably next) gun will be an AR type rifle (bought or assembled), after which it will be down to the range to check reliability, then down to some sort of class.

Guns can be very addicting, but remember that you need ammo. I am of the survival mindset so I have the minimum firearms and all the ammo I can buy and stash.

And people like me with only 700 rounds for each caliber will be grateful for people like you when the Zombies come and your bitten after 3 shots and i get to shoot 2 million more zombies thanks to your ammo.! Thanks in advance BTW. lol

Being real tho, Unless you have a bunker to protect all that ammo it will be very hard to defend. These days ammo costs going sky its a good investment that increases in value so that i can see being a good move.

I am in the Same Place

And I want to get down to one caliber in; rifle, handgun and shotgun plus 22lr. And possibly one piece in my chosen calibers.
So far my thinking has run to .30'06 M1, 357/38spl S&W 686+, Remington 870 and 22lr. That would cut down on handloading and ammo stock piling.:)
For now I'm looking to rid myself of the other calibers. And trying to make up my mind as to being confident of my choices.

Helping send a grandkid to college is really cutting into my buying guns & reloading equipment.
Only purchased 3 guns last year--one rifle this year.
My car went to the college fund.
My youngest gave me his 02 Mustang---I drove a GT for many years--now the o2 mustang v6 feels like a fat man jammed into a P-51.
Win some-lose some

Honestly. You should consider the following: Hunting (wood chucks, boar, deer, squirrel, rabbit) if that's not your cup of tea, try out some clay pigeon shooting, trap is my favorite. It isn't all about the piece of paper and putting a hole in it :)

yep, I'll be done when I'm dead....and even then my family will be tasked with satisfying the deposits at LGS's where I have laid away future purchases.

Done? NEVER!

I just discovered this thread, and haven't read all the replies yet, so if someone else has pretty much covered the ground I'm about to cover, please excuse me.
My "collection" such as it is, consists of two self-defense handguns, one deer rifle, one pump shotgun with a slug barrel and a 30" full-choke barrel, an SKS (in case a revolution breaks out :D), and most importantly, my ancient, time-honored .22 rifle.
Of all my firearms, the .22 rifle sees the most practical use. I keep it loaded, with a Burnham Brothers varmint light attached to the scope, standing behind my bedroom door, ready for the moment I detect some varmint (four-legged kind) raiding my vegetable garden or one of my 20 assorted tropical fruit trees.
If you get right down to it, the .22 rifle actually earns its keep. Sure, from time to time I take out one of the "safe queens" for a deer hunt, range time, or a session of sporting clays, but that doesn't happen often. As far as my "self defense" handguns go, the odds of me being carjacked or home-invaded are about zero. Those pistols are basically gathering dust (thank God! :D)
So, I guess the only firearm I really "need" is my .22 rifle. Raccoons, possums, squirrels, rats, armadillos, and crows are about the only enemies I have who need to be engaged with a firearm.
I love my sleepy country life! :D

That must be nice.

Having just bought two nice Enfield #4s within a seven week period, the gun craving has been statisfied for a while.

The problem for me is that the British/Euro. organizantions and others are paying many countries with tax Euro$ to destroy vast heaps of surplus rifles and ammo (WW2 bolt-actions included):(.

The other threat is that the new ATF Director and any future clones reportedly want to block imports of anything they can.
Hope that I'm wrong about this, and please tell me so if I'm mistaken.

My craving is now switching to more imported ammo and reloading components.

Third on motorcycles.

Also, how about collecting quality tools? Like Snap-On, Matco, MAC, S-K.

Expensive watches don't do it for me. A $100 Japanese watch seems to keep time just as well as a $5,000 Swiss watch. But hey, to each his own.

I got to that point about a year ago so I bought a 1970 Lincoln Continental to work on and keep me busy. Very busy...

I am no longer buying guns too. I am retired on SS so the money is tight for now. The only gun that might cause me to open the wallet is a Finn M91 Mosin Nagant, if the price is right....chris3

Well no wonder I'm having a hard time finding a good used Python. :D

My safe is full so if I want to buy anything new, I have to figure out what I want to sell. Sure does cut down on impulse purchases.

Yep, like other's I'm in need of accessories now~!

I think I am about finished for 2011. Hit it hard early. Need some components, parts, etc.

BOAT (Break Out....) you know the drill. I have two small ones.

I have also spent some jack on new lightweight camping/survival gear the last couple of years, that is always fun.
