You Tube video:

letting others shoot your 500 S&W with 700 grain lead bullets....

You can see some double taps here....and the gun is not secured safely by some of the shooters.

Watch the fellow in the Hawaiian shirt....<http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxUfE1C7KeY>

The recoil is so fast, so great, his trigger finger stays on and he performs an unsafe double tap.

I purchased a 500 two years ago (one of my first) and their loads are great! It's nicer to shoot than my friends titanium Taurus 4" 41 magnum.

If you want quality New manufactured, New Brass 500 S&W ammo, from reduced loads to 700 grainers, that is safe, accurate, dependable and least expensive, try <http://www.ballisticsupply.net/>....Bill has a wealth of information and is extremely helpful. He is American, speaks English. Important to me.

I didn't see a double tap either, even from the guy in the Hawaiian shirt. All I saw were some guys shooting a really big gun.

I've never shot one of these, but even so, I don't think an unintentional double tap would be all that easy. What's the DA trigger pull on yours? 15lbs? It would be difficult to pull a 15lb trigger accidentally.

It's obvious that most of those guys either weren't ready for or couldn't handle that load, but I didn't see anything that I would consider unsafe.

I have to agree, I didn't see/hear any doubletap(s) either. I'd also have to agree that if they were doubling, that revolver has a crazy-light trigger pull which is definetly NOT standard, especially in stock double-action revolvers. I can't see how they'd be getting enough let-off of the trigger during the recoil to not only cause it to reset, but fire a second shot.

Doubling has been reported in the .500's... though I've never experienced it. I didn't see any doubles in the film. Oh, and firing from a solid rest is a bad idea (at first, anyway). A good solid 2 handed grip is required, but they're not _that_ bad. I've fired several, though I've never tried a 700gr bullet :what:. I have shot the 350gr XTP's, from several different barrel lengths... there is a bit of recoil involved, but it's the muzzle blast that gets to you! That's what rattles the fillings in your teeth and pushes your eyes back into your head :)

Shooting a big magnum like this is something you might need to work up to... if you're uncomfortable with .357's in a snubby, you won't ever enjoy the .500S&W. If it's not your thing, that's nothing to be ashamed of.

For those of us who appreciate a little recoil therapy from time to time, the .500 fits the bill very well :D

<<It's obvious that most of those guys either weren't ready for or couldn't handle that load>>

Could be their just physic-in themselves out about it. From what they hear. What other people say.

<<Doubling has been reported in the .500's... though I've never experienced it.>>

Neither I.

<<A good solid 2 handed grip is required, but they're not _that_ bad.>>

You can use a one-handed approach. Depending on the load, person behind it. Even the 500 grain is not bad.

Don’t know what loads their using?

I chock up on the grip, like a baseball bat. Unlike a j,k frame. I have my hand higher up on the x-frames. And don’t (counter act) fight the recoil. A lot of people do this (see link below) that’s for either for a one-handed or two-handed approach. Single or double action.

Here’s what some of those loads can do.

I see the doubletaps. Wonder where the second slugs went to? Very stupid. :scrutiny:

Troutman-
ALL of my high velocity pistol rounds will break modular concrete blocks, even my little guys like 9mm and .357sig. Though I prefer shooting cinder blocks to solid blocks.

I noticed a lot of finger on the trigger after each shot (and while waving that thing around). I also noticed a lot of "thumb over wrist" holds, it's a wonder nobody sprained anything.

I bought some 700 grain and 600 grain from Ballistic Supply.....I will load one at a time to try....it's just something I want to feel in my hand.....going to the desert today.....

Also bought some 'magsafe shot loads for the 500 and want to see how that works too....next thing I want to get is a nice little video camera.

Oh, Bill up in Washington is telling me that a bunch of #4 buck will fit in a 500 case, they are going to test some for defense too....

I'll let you know

Richard

more 500, last one until I return

I always wear plugs and muffs

A light glove to protect my skin

and a smile

talk to you later

I'll take some still shots of the junks of wood, etc., maybe even try a video from my camera..but don't want to embarrass myself.

i also saw the finger on the trigger mistakes and fequently at that. I see more of these shooters being the "hey a .500, I can shoot that" type more than those that would seriously use such a revolver.
Also, I can't yet see the laugh factor in shooting such a hard recoiling firearm, and either having the result hurt or take one really by surprise. must be something funny 'vbout it as these fellows seem humored by the abuse their giving themselves.

my loads: report and camera video to follow

Just for fun:

It's not abuse, it's fun.

Hi, look closely, looks as if the fellow in the Hawaiian shirt shows two distinct recoils.....

Took everything out into the desert today....tripod, camera, targets, wood, 500's, I mean it takes 2 or 3 hours of preparation.

It's deer season. My secret location would have been safe to set up and shoot, but I thought it would be inconsiderate as I could see a camper truck northwest and another vehicle with two very loud talkers about half a mile southeast, all safely located but I don't know where people would be walking stalking, etc.

Came home.

Everything on hold until deer season ends.....

I didn't see any doubles either. Like 85chss said, a lot of shots in the background might make you think there were double taps but I never saw a second muzzle flash.

I would have been worried if I were at that range the way those guys were waving around the revolver with their finger on the trigger.
