Don't ever say it couldn't ever happen to you. Arrested.

Hi, Dave, and welcome to The High Road!

I strongly urge you to get a lawyer on retainer immediately. Yes, I understand you know "the system", but you do not know the law and the machinations of the same as a licensed professional that practices in the genre of law that has you ensnared. The longer you wait, the more expensive it gets. The sooner you get a good lawyer on the case the better your case will go and a good lawyer may be able to keep you out of court all together. You asked for answers, and this is the best I can offer you.

This sounds a lot like what I got arrested for a few years ago. I was just a hair away from losing my firearm rights forever because of some bad paperwork. Find yourself a bulldog of a lawyer to fight your case. Hope your situation ends up like mine: charges dropped.

If you can find the receipt (even just a charge on your CC statement would help) and the box it came in when you bought it, that would be some primo evidence in your case. Shows legal purchase from legal establishment, even if it has gone out of business.

This^
And if you find that original box chances are your sales receipt will be in it, it's where I keep my receipts.
jmo,
.

Get a lawyer, but also if you're in a hard R area and ever have donated maybe bother your state rep. They can bark up the tree and save your lawyer a little time. Despite the current make up of the federal employee pool, a lot of these people still will wet their pants when a congressional critter or their staff gives them a ring.
