Glad THR is back up.... no other gun board compares to this one.... I felt like I was missing out on talking to my friends while it was down! Glad its back up!!!!

Welcome back.

Sorry about the down-time. It goes something like this:

1) Backup took a while (3 gig database transferred over ethernet).
2) OS upgrade went cleanly.
3) Installation of new software (non-vBulletin) went fine.
4) Importing the database took 12 hours.
5) The upgrade to vB 3 is a script that takes you through each beta, then each release candidate, until you're left with vB 3. We went through the initial conversion and all the way through beta-5 without problems. Then we ran into issues. Issues I'm not technically qualified to work around.
6) We tried working around it anyway. No good.
7) We dropped the database (which was now unreadable by vB 2), and reimported it. This took another 12 hours (I think -- I went to bed and came back after 15 hours had elapsed)
8) Reinstall of vB 2 took maybe 10 minutes. And here we are.

Anyway, I've called in one of the vB gurus and he's gonna try and figure out what broke. If we're good, we'll run the upgrade on another box first to make sure it runs cleanly.

Yep.
Used TFL to do some research.

Others and I kept informed via email, used TFL for reference, had a few folks going through withdrawl symptoms.[< shakey voice exclaims to me> Help what do I do? ]Fellow took my suggestion and took up reading Classic Lawdog, Hottentots, and mall ninja threads...it is my understanding he spend the rest of his time cleaning his monitor and keyboard. :p

I need broadband, so when a member calls I can use phone and 'net at the same time..."insert smile here, neener for that one, I can't tell if that is a rolling eyes or a sarcastic smilie on the vB3"....*ahem* that member would not do for a golf announcer. :p

Maintenance and upgrading is almost always a pain in the behind, but you did it right. I appreciated the neat progress bulletins so I could understand what was going on, and where you were at. Most sites I think, wouldn’t have bothered – especially after the problems cropped up. I’m sure everyone will be understanding, and very thankful you’re doing what you do so well.

Thanks again ….

Thanks Derek (& Oleg & the rest of the staff). As with many other things in life all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes isn't noticed while things run smoothly. It is only when something goes down or wrong that everyone else notices just how much work really goes into doing something successful.

Derek & all -
Kudos and thanks for your fine work. I missed y'all.

Upgrades & conversions always take at least one tube of Preparation H, but you guys did a great job, very professional, and the progress bulletins were appreciated.

Best regards, M2

I did the same thing as sm.

Dropped back to the ole place (TFL) and did some constructive reading.

I did check in here about 10 times the last two days though.:D

Remarkable work gentleman....many thanks for your hard work, patience, and updates....I'm sure some good rest is in order for you !...my sincerest
gratitude !

Odd. Since it was down, I just used the opportunity to actually go shoot my guns.

Smoke.

Many thanks, Derek. I'm glad THR is back up and looking the same-which is PERFECT.

I used the time to attempt to clean up an SKS stock, but ended up with a gooey mess from the tung oil. So I took it shooting and got a group of 3" at 50 yds. It is TOO MUCH FUN! and throws the brass to the right and about 3 feet in front of the firing line. Perfect! I don't even have to sweep it up.

Then, Saturday afternoon I was overcome with some sort of sleeping sickness and spent the rest of the weekend in bed.:uhoh:

Many thanks Derek & Staff.

I'm very thankful for your efforts... but I'm not going to lie: I was going through a fit of the shakes. I'm glad THR is back.
