This shortage is going to go on a lot longer than anyone expects. I'm down to 45K spp and I really don't think it's going to last me. Still, I am not buying at the current inflated prices. I'll ration till I run out and then stop shooting till some sense of normalcy returns. At this point it won't be till at least 2022 and even then prices will be a lot higher than they used to be. No more $10 boxes of 9mm.

Yup, checked in the morning and it was the only 9mm bullet not listed as out of stock, ordered 2. Should have ordered 4.
Went back in couple hours later and they were listed as out of stock.
Held my breath till I got the shipped notice.
But it's a good sign

Get on Ammoseek and save your $50 for something better. Like ammo.

Your post is a very well written exigesis of the basics of economics. Whether or not people will take it to heart is another story.

I'm on Ammoseek constantly, I don't need ammo, I need more SRP. I'm down to 2800 and would like to load some more 9mm.
But thanks for interjecting like you know my situation.
And yes SRP works just fine for 9mm and 357 Mag.

I didn't see covid and the riots coming but somehow I knew there would an election in Nov. I bought 20 lbs of powder a few months before covid hit. I didn't need primers as I had about 20K on hand at that time. I don't keep bullets in any large quantity but so far they haven't been a problem. Generally the bullet manufactures get behind but they catch up pretty fast when you run machines 24/7. Seems they have a capacity to make bullets a lot faster than powder and primers.

Going forward I hope people learn a lesson from this. If you need one, buy two and stash one away for times like these. The prices never go down, only up.

You da man. If everyone were like you the world would be a better place. Take what you need and leave the rest. I hate scalpers and carpet baggers.

    @coondogger,

I have a hard time believing that any of this has anything to do with economics, supply and demand or anything else people want to call it.

The prices wouldn't be so out of control if the scalpers and other panickers were out of the picture. All they're doing is causing other people to do the same things to others.

Do I think it will stop any time soon? Not at all, people haven't learned from all the other panics we've had in the past. When salad days are here, buy a little extra so that you have it on hand. That means everything that you think you'll need, from primers to spare parts for all your firearms.

Then you have to decide on how much shooting that you think you'll have to do. I've cut back a lot, I don't have to shoot every week. For that matter, I don't need to shoot every month. I've decided that I would rather save my ammo for the 2 big desert shoots that we do during the year.

By doing this, I do my part by not buying hyperinflated ammunition and supplies. I don't feed the trolls and it helps me keep my ammo fort standing. At this moment in time, I think we can all agree it's a bad idea to buy over priced everything for firearms! I'm pretty sure that most guys here understand all of this.

Only time will tell what's going to happen, especially with a new regime coming in. And this new regime is extremely anti-gun! Then top it off with the clown show at the capital, didn't help our cause.

Even though it had NOTHING to do with firearms, because some were used, that's all they will focus on! So, you can bet that one of the first things that might come out will be anti-gun legislation.

Years ago during the shortage following Sandy Hook we had a Gander Mountain (Rest In Peace) about 10 min down the road. Kid behind the counter told me the ammo orders came in Thursday mornings and whatever they got would be out on the floor about 10:30 to 11:00 AM. Nothing really local to us anymore other than a Walmart maybe 30 min away and a Cabela's about a 45 min ride. Since I am well stocked I haven't bothered to even look locally or online.

Anyway it can pay to know when distributors get stuff in. Most seem to know. Hell, the girls at my local Rite Aid drug store told me Thursdays so if I want toilet paper just stop on Thursday afternoon. Chances are good for Charmin Mega Roll packs. :) I guess it's all about timing.

The kids in your neck of the woods must be a lot sharper than the kids around here. I asked a kid behind the counter at a large Shooters Supply store, "so when do you get your shipments in?"
'Oh, I dunno, all different times, I don't think there is any kind of schedule.'

And sales person I had a long talk with last week at Cabela's said they learned from the last shortage.
They don't put the whole shipment out the day they receive it. They split it over several days and put it out at different times of the day so normal customers have a chance at getting some.

I need to take inventory and sell or trade components I don’t have stuff to complete or calibers I don’t own any more.
I was bad at one time about buying powder and primers, but not pairing it up with bullets. I also have several calibers I have sold out of and still have significant amounts of components.

I live a short distance from the CCI factory in Lewiston and have never heard of them selling components like you're saying. I have friends that work there and they're telling me no as well. You can try but they have machine gun towers and flood lights there for a reason.

5 pages of on topic, off topic, and a bit of tin foil seems like enough for now.
