I'm looking at a Stevens 311A/12ga./28in bbl/95% condition.$275.00.
Is that a good price?
I have read that the chamber on older shotguns is 2 9/16 and should be bored to 2 3/4 for modern loads.
Any info on this shotgun or web site to visit would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Decent price, neither steal nor swindle.

ANY older shotgun should be checked out by a competent smith before firing the first round. Chamber length and headspace are two things on the list to be checked.

I like the 311 and variants, a nice working class double with great reliability and durability.

That's about the going range, if you look you can find them abit cheaper. Most 311's are chambered for 3 inch shells so there should be no problem there. I always take a couple of new snap caps to the dealer with me to run thru each barrel. If I don't get a good dent in the primer I don't buy. That gets you some really strange looks, and always explain what you are doing before you do it. I buy most of mine from pawn shops, and dropping a couple of shells in a gun isn't the best way to make friends. I love mine, they are solid made doubles that are great for field use.
