Double Charge - Be Careful

Not so, if you do not complete every stroke completely you can double charge on most progressives. The only reason you cannot do this on the 1050 is because it has a ratchet that prevents any reverse movement until the stroke is complete.
Not sure about other auto index progressive, but on Lee Pro 1000, powder is charged only at the very top of the ram stroke - You cannot double charge without the shell plate advancing to the next station (#3). In order for a double charge to occur, you must rotate the shell plate backwards to station #2.

Most progressive presses charge at the very top of the stroke but they don't index until the bottom of the stroke. So, if you run the ram all the way to the top and charge the case then lower it enough to reset the measure but not enough to index then go back up you will now have a double.

Now you are thinking "who would do that"? I have often thought this very thing myself, the answer is in each "Kaboom" post.

That depends on whether you have manual index or auto index on your progressive.

With auto index, you have to "intentionally and consciously" move the shell plate back to double charge - very difficult to do.

With manual index, it is very doable - you must remember to advance the shell plate after each powder charge (cycle of the ram lever).
The human being will find a way to screw up a fool proof process. The moment we forget that, bad things happen and surprise us.

Of course not forgetting is not guarantee that bad things will not happen any way but....

I have done it with the loadmaster and it happend when something went wrong (flipped primer or upside down case in the feeder and the ram was already partly up the stroke and the powder disk got to about the middle of the cavity, when I brought the lever down to fix the problem I thought that the powder dispenser had not dispensed any powder so I went on on my way. After cycling the press I rechecked the last charge case and it had about 1.5 charges in it.

You sound like a very careful, astute and thoughful reloader. 'Little things' nag you until you go back to remove that nagging feeling. I like that. I'd shoot your reloads anyday.
keep up the good work.
