doubletap 147 grain 9mm

Anyone know if the 147 grain 9mm offered by doubletapammo.com is still considered subsonic? It is barely over the speed of sound, and I am worried it may suffer accuracy for going subsonic shortly after leaving the barrel. I want to get some but wasn't sure because I would like doubletap because the increased velocity will help expansion, but if its above sonic speed I dont want it to drop below that too quickly! Also, I have a springfield xd 9 in the 4" barrel length

how far are you planning on shooting?? I would never shoot a 9mm over 30 yards, and 50 yards would be just for fun to see if I could get remotely close to the target. I would say you wouldn't notice a difference in accuracy due to the bullet going subsonic until these ranges. and even then, not much of a difference. I think bullets going subsonic are really only a problem with rifle rounds.

That being said, I've shot that doubletap load and enjoy it a lot. fantastic expansion, reliable, etc. One final note - I've noticed the velocity figures on doubletap's website tend to run a bit high, kind of like a maximum velocity for a certain ammo run. with the velocity listed at 1120 fps, I seriously doubt it goes supersonic at all in anything with less than a 4.5" - 5" barrel.

Well, do you know if the white winchester box of 147 grain reliably expands? I know it is a less advanced bullet than the speed gold dot but just curious as it is much cheaper and I wouldnt have to order it. I really like the ballistic results of good 147 bullets, they always penetrate and expand to a good size. if WWB performs well it would make a nice practice and carry round. Its hard to buy a bunch of 30+ dollar ammo for practice (to make sure it is reliable).

I regularly shoot my 9 out to 100 yards, and I do more than "get near the target"...I hit it.
I have always prefered the 124gn loads in the 9mm, but will giving the latest gen 147's a try one of these days. Been a fan of DoubleTap for few years, so I may start there.

A thread on Glocktalk within the last day or two in Caliber Corner about 147 Silvertip, and basically it looks like the 147 WWB might be the Silvertip bullet with 'regular' coloring.

A bullet crossing from super to subsonic is not going to lose accuracy over it either, not that I am aware of.

I have been trying to decide what Size to go with for me PF-9.

I was always told go with the light bullet because the slower speed of the heavier bullet would not allow it to expand.

Heavier bullets lose less speed out of a short barrel than a long one, and lighter bullets are (usually) designed to hold together at higher velocities than a heavier, slower by design bullet, so they might fall out of their optimum performance window while a 147 is still in the thick of it.

If you will be using the rounds for self defense, you won't notice the difference in accuracy either way. If you are a bench rest bulls eye shooter needing 1" groups at 50 yards, thats a different story.

In a self defense situation, most accuracy issues will be caused by the shooter more than the ammo.

I never wanted to carry any 147s save for the now discountinued Black Talon.

Velocity of my RAMI would be too low for reliable expansion.

The Double Tap 147s have more velocity than others, and
give me some confidence in the round, but I only carry them in
a full sized 9mm. CZ or Glock.

I was putting 2-3 round bursts thru a car window at 100 yards using GA Arms 147 gr. subsonic FMJ @ 950 fps. It was shot thru a suppressed M11/9 with a 8" barrreled Lage upper.
