I started a thread in the rifle section asking about a .22 rifle with dovetail grooves for mounting a scope but now I'm interested to see what *YOU* prefer and why?

Dovetails or Threaded holes?

I see the logic behind wanting a drilled/tapped receiver as it's possible for the scope to slide on the dovetails after a lot of shooting but I'm notorious for wanting my screws tight and I feel like I would just strip out the tapped holes in the receiver.

Opinions?

im using the factory dovetail that resided under the scope mount on a Mosin and it's holding up pretty well. If you strip screws on a drilled/tapped receiver you will do the same on the rings for a dovetailed receiver though, so I don't think it matters.

My logic says that it's easier to replace rings than it would be to redrill and tap larger holes in the receiver.
I was just curious what everyone's opinion was on each option :)

Seriously, if you can't install small machine screws without stripping them you should get a torque driver or let someone else do it.
As far as dove tail receiver mounts on a 22, nothing wrong with them, used them for years.
