i was considering getting a dpms ar15 in 6.8 spc. anyone know what you need to convert it to a .223 because i know the bottom reciever is interchangable. do i need a whole new top reciever or just minor parts? (6.8 spc for hunting, .223 for range purposes)

is it cheaper to part these guns together or buy as whole? i notice dpms stating that a 21% federal tax on full assembled ones?

You would need a complete upper to convert between the 223 and 6.8 SPC. The boltface diameter is different.

Buy once cry once. Bushmaster. Or contact John Holliger and get both uppers built at the same time. Then use a whatever good quality lower you can get.

i prefer all receivers the same brand. bushmaster was my primary choice but my cousin had one before and he reccomends a dpms.

All complete firearms sold to civilians have a Federal Excise Tax on them. I forget the tax rate, at one point it was 11%. Parts do not have that tax on them.

nice website and variety to navigate from the start.

wow the tax is enough to get a few mods for the new ar, i think i'm better getting the lower receiver first... and then decide on the caliber, i'm leaning towards the 6.8 spc.

I use a DPMS lower with a Del-Ton rifle kit and have no complaints and no problems.

I have two DPMS rifles and are very high quality! I know some people talk smack about them but why? Probably because they bought a box of parts and couldn't put it together.

i'm liking this river rock stuff, great price. i'm thinking of starting with the base .223 model and later switching to the 6.8 with the quad rail.

I think the RRA will serve you well. I have a Bushmaster 24 in. 223 and 2 White Oak Armament uppers, one in 223 and one in 6mm WOA. The 6mm is a 6.8 SPC case necked down to 6mm. Performance is outstanding.

The top is Bushy, middle is WOA 6mm, bottom is WOA 223.

perhaps i've met my match... i was reading across the 450 bushmaster, wonder if this upper receiver will work with the .223 lower receiver, doesn't really say much on their site except that it will drop in... i just want the .223 for price purposes because i find myself going to the range more often and shell/parts are cheaper for the .223. the 450 sounds almost perfect for what i want it for, if it works with the .223 lower receiver that is... wonder if they offer a larger capacity mag other than the 5-shot magazine... at least 10..

i've contacted bushmaster and they said the .223 bottom with work with the .450 upper, also the single shot mag follower can be used with the .223 30 round magazine to reach a capacity of 9 rounds for the .450. just thought i would share this info incase others were intrested also.

Apparently Cerberus just bought DPMS on the 13th. This means that Bushmaster, Remington, DPMS and Cobb now have the same ownership (though they still have different managements).

They all the same and all made to mil spec. The only exception I know of, but am sure there are others, is JP. I have DPMS but its no different than Rock River, Bushmaster, S&W, Armalite, and a host of others.

barrel, bolt face and magazine are all you need to swap for the 6.8. buy one complete gun and just buy an upper kit to fit your needs. 6.8, .450, .50 beowolf, and countless others.
