Looks like DPMS has a new 308 AR out. http://dpms-gii.com/full.html
Revised their old design to slim down the upper and take some weight/length out, but still takes the same mags. I keep reading that they are shipping but can't find one to handle locally. Does anyone have one yet? Any range reports?

I don't and I haven't, but they certainly have my attention with this one. Near AR15 dimensions and sharing a good quantity of parts with one is a major bonus(HG/barrel nut dimension stands out to me). I wonder if this could be the design that standardizes the .308 AR world. One can hope any way. Time will tell. I am definitely tempted to find one.

Since seeing the junk they put out during the panic i'll never touch another DPMS again. A friend's DPMS .308 bolt looked like a caveman machined it with a pickaxe and it ran as such, meaning it didn't. DPMS has a reputation for being at the bottom of the AR manufacturer scale for a reason.

Interesting designs though. Just wish somebody else was doing them.

Ive had a bottom of the heap sportscle for years and its accurate and has never missed a lick. Fit and finish are good also. Not bad for 600 dollars. It has shot thousands of rounds.

I always have to chime in when I see someone bash DPMS, listen, there aren't many places that dont put out the occasional lemons, it happens. Unless you have thousands of dollars to buy super tier 1 stuff (and then even those have lemons sometimes) doesn't mean all of the company's products are crap. I think DPMS had a couple lemons, maybe a little more than normal in I believe 2010-11, but not so much since then and before that I remember back in 2005 -10 people raved at the LR models.

I have three DPMS, a Bull 20, A Recon 5.56, and a R25 (which DPMS makes for Remington) and I have had absolutely NO issues. All incredibly accurate, with no malfunctions if I do my part. I trust DPMS and I plan on getting a G2 16". They have great customer service too, I had a friend that had problems with his sportical 223, they took great care of him and now he hasnt had any issues with it since he got it back now for over two years.

I'm interested. I have wanted a .260 Rem upper for my S&W M&P10 but it does not look like the aftermarket is developing (a real shame since it is such a high quality gun). The G2 might be my best route to a AR type .260.

Arizona Mike - I think LMT makes a convertible .308 AR-10 style rifle that can be fitted with a .260 barrel.

I'm very interested...especially in the receivers and BCG if I could get them ala-carte for a build. It looks like they are really stepping up their game with this particular offering.

EdLaver, you can call it bashing if you wish but what I've given is an accurate account of what I've experienced. By the same token, even a low end company will produce products that work in most circumstance. The problem is the frequency of issues seen with DPSM. I understand that no company has 100% effective QC but there is just no excuse for the condition of the bolt which came with the rifle I mentioned. I have a early DPMS .308 that runs relatively well although one of the factory mags it came with is unreliable. My friend's .308 functioned when my bolt was installed in it. His bolt, on the other hand, would actually bind when rotated by hand in the carrier. Again, there's just no excuse for that. My father has an older DPMS AR15 that is okay but does jam far more often than it should. I'm glad your rifles work well for you but DPMS has in fact earned a reputation as being on the low end of the scale when it comes to AR quality.

Is it fully ambidextrous like the S&W? I think the G2 will take most AR15 sized accessories like BAD Lever, Ambi mag release, etc.

There is recent word from S&W that while their bolt and barrel extension in proprietary, the threads are the same as DPMS and they may start selling parts in coming months.

Is it worth the extra money? Don't know. I have the DPMS RFLR-OC 308 which I upgraded with a quality quad rail and 2 magpul mags for like $1,350. Nice gun. AR 10's rule!

DPMS currently makes both 260 Rem and 6.5 CM in their Gen1 line. You might also look into if the S&W upper is built to the same pattern as DPMS Gen1 or Armalite, lots of aftermarket support for those types.

I did read on another forum that the BAD lever will NOT fit the G2 though. Personally, I not a fan of that part anyways. Too external... Planning to make a right side bolt release similar to what these guys do: http://www.accurateandreliablerifle.com/products.html

Just curious here. Did you contact DPMS with this issue? Was it resolved through warranty or return?

I've had a couple of the G2 308 hunters pass through last week and was pretty impressed with them. Light rifles with EXCEPTIONAL triggers. The right side selector is not so good in my opinion and I would reprofile it if it was my rifle. I have a G2 SASS coming for a special order customer as well.

The G2 is a lighter and more streamlined platform and looks to be a winner in my opinion.

It wasn't my rifle but the owner returned it for repair. I never saw it after he got it back but it was believed that it came back with a new bolt. He verified it worked, promptly sold it and then purchased a SW M&P 10 which he has been very happy with.

Recently ordered one, it's sitting at my FFL right now while I wait on the NICS :(

...anyway...in the 10-15min I inspected it, the one thing that I was a little disappointed with was that the LOP seemed a little short for my tastes (even when extending the PRS to its limit) - of course I won't be able to really judge till I can get it to the range, that was just my initial impression...

@kenmhall1: Is your N.I.C.S. not being I.? Even during the panic, mine never took more than 10 min and I don't even use my SSN and I've used a different weight every time (been getting into shape).
