Has anyone here installed a Daniel Defense Lite rail on a DPMS SASS 7.62 barrel?

I'm asking because the SASS barrel is thicker than a standard bull (only between the barrel extension and gas block). They even make a special SASS gas block because with a standard 0.936" gas block the gas tube will not fully clear the OD of the barrel. The DPMS rail fits over the barrel and gas block, but the DD Lite is narrower and it is the one I would prefer.

Having owned a different brand AR in 308, it won't work. The barrel nut is going to be your main hang up.

Real Mags,

Can you please elaborate on this?

Having owned a different brand AR in 308, it won't work. The barrel nut is going to be your main hang up.

Even the SASS barrel OD is slightly smaller than a standard 308 barrel extension, so any correct barrel nut for a 308 upper should work. Otherwise the barrel would have to be threaded on after the handguard. :scrutiny:

What type of problem did you run into? And what brand?

If you are using an AR15 rail it won't clamp around the AR10 barrel nut. I used a Troy "universal" free float and it was too small. I switched it out with the Troy 308 rail and everything worked fine.

To clarify, Daniel Defense does make a DD lite rail specific for the LR308.

In case anyone else is interested, I called them and they said the ID of the 308 Lite rail is 1.42". The SASS barrel is about 1.125" OD, so that leaves ~0.147" clearance under the handguard. It should work okay.
