I have a Draco Pistol that I fired for the first time today. I was dismayed to find it repeatedly malfunctioned. I was using a new MagPul P-mag and Prvi Partisan ammunition. I have never used this ammo, as I usually opt for wolf in this caliber, but the range would not let me use my deadly steel core ammo. It failed to feed about four times, and stove piped once in 20 rounds. The bolt would also fail to go fully into battery on feeding rounds. Other than the stove pipe I would have to say this would be a magazine issue, but I thought P-mags were the best. I have also never used that type of ammunition before, is this junk ammo? I fully disassembled the weapon and thoroughly cleaned it when I first got it, I checked over everything accept the headspace. Everything looked great, and this is not my first AK variant either. Does anyone else have any thoughts on what could be the issue here?

PMAGS are great for AR's.. Never heard a good thing about them in the AK family though...

Do a fluff and buff on your bolt surfaces with Eagle One's never dull wadding polish, by hand of course. Hit the top surface of the hammer as well, where it makes contact with bolt bottom. (When in the "cocked" position...)

You may also need to hit the rail surfaces where the bolt rides in, as well as the cover.

Goes over basics of it at about 6:45...

Does that mean you have heard bad things?

I will give this a try.

Is the p-mag the only one you tried? Try regular steel mags and see how it works, before buffing or taking any kind of machinery to any part of your ak.
remove dust cover and recoil spring, load up pmag with some ammo you were using and insert mag and manually push the ammo forward and see where it goes from there, it's. Double stack so you want to see where both sides are feeding

Yes the Pmag is the only magazine I tried. I was planning on taking it to another range before I modify parts. I only put 20 rounds of that Prvt Partizan stuff through it, because I couldn't use outside ammo and it was 17.99 a box :what: I have several other mags to try before I start messing with it.

I have had fantastic luck with ak p mags. Granted they are fairly new to the mark but I've put over five hundred rounds through two of them with no issues. They however do not fit in my wasar under folder but it has a tight mag well and only works well with metal mags. You might use a light and see what the chamber looks like I just got a century centurion a k back that I sent in for simular issues. It may nor be causing the stove pipes but the bolt on mine wouldn't go all the way forward without a good wack. They polished the chamber an checked the head spacing and sent it back and so far it runs great.

Seriously? There are so many simple things to do before going in and messing with the internals. Why do people constantly jump to suggesting home gunsmithing?

It seems some others have given you great advice in this thread. You've already done the first and most important by breaking it down and cleaning it.

Different mags and ammo before anything else. Try that and then report back.

Perfect, perfect, perfect advice for the next steps.

Yes, seriously. Did you watch the supplied video? I'm not directing the OP to take/send his pistol to a gunsmith and make extreme changes. The tooling used to produce these units is rough around the edges, to say the least, and the go-through as directed in the video is REALLY basic to get a smoother operating action.

If using wadding polish and your hands is considered "gunsmithing", then I guess we have a different dictionary. Wow.

You need to eliminate the issues with ammo and magazines first before you go deeper.

Go to another range with no ammo restrictions and bring a surplus steel magazine with you and a variety of ammo. If they fire without issue on the steel magazine but not on the Pmag, then you know its the Pmag.

I also have a Draco Pistol (12.5") that has functioned flawlessly but I only use steel mags. I have 2 AK Pmags but I have never tried them on the Draco..yet.
