I was wondering how well this ammo works. I have read some old posts and just wanted to know if there has been anything new in the proof area. For a product that was very expensive and was thought to be useless it is still on the market after at least 3 years. Any help would be appreciated. Thank You.

They have claimed that by varying the core make-up/compression, and the jacket thickness, they can basically make the bullet penetrate to desired depth (even defeat obstacles) and then violently disintegrate. Big claim.

I've seen one magazine article, in American Rifleman, evaluating .223 and .308 on game. Once you pared down the flowery praise, they said, "Yup, it works just like hunting ammo!" ;)

You can find links to that article and others at DRT's media page.

I prefer the Glaser Safety Slug.
DRT is nothing more than varmint ammo marketed for self defense.

Overhyped ammo never works up to what it is hyped to do IMO. I have used a few Glasers and have been disappointed with their performance. For my defense uses, I will stick with premium, proven ammunition.

:scrutiny:

Just out of curiosity, are you saying that the people you shot with them didn't cease hostilities quickly enough?

Negative, I have shot a few wild dogs with them (not nearly as tough as a human), and even with great shot placement the damage isn't enough to kill it. Penetration has been severely limited. However, they have dispatched foxes quite well.

Everybody agrees that birdshot is a poor penetration
why would you shoot a pistol round that's birdshot?
Better ammo, MUCH better ammo for the money
sorry, but if it was so great, I'm sure some police department would use it.

Are we sure some dept. doesn't? Their website says this:
Our ammunition has been sold to law enforcement and government agencies for a decade and has been serving our country overseas...

It is currently accepted by law enforcement and special government agencies.
The American Rifleman article mentioned the SEALs using it, as well as a state wildlife agency.

Me? Haven't bought any. I note they are now partnered with Corbon; if any shows up locally, I might try some.

Ok, now try to find the NSN (national stock number)
IF the federal government contracted to buy some, or approved the ammo for purchase
they would have a NSN

OH, and um
I do believe that their ammo would be banned by the Hague convention against 'exotic' ammo. So, like most of those types of ammo companies, I call BULL, pocky, I do know that the Sky Marshals did carry exotic frangibles (note the past tense)

But they found the ammo to be inconsistent, failed to achieve adequate penetration
AND STILL PENETRATED THE PLANE HULL

Oh and a little bullet hole, doesn't pop the jet like a balloon, it it did, the Air Force would have never gotten started.

just saying, why use questionable ammo that concentrates on marketing and not performance?

It never ceases to amaze me how ammo manufacturers keep coming up with ever better "defense" rounds. But most of it is just hype to sell something "new" for a higher price tag.

Many, many years ago, a fellow with some actual experience (sorry gun rag writers, you can shoot as many blocks of gelatin as you want, but till you start shooting people who are shooting back, you are just blowing hot air) told me the secrets of shooting someone who want's to hurt you.

1. "Hit the, (politically correct version follows) female parent fornicator.
2. "Keep shooting (another politically correct version) the born out of wedlock
person until they can't get up".
