Is there a general consensus regarding whether or not it is okay to dry fire a Ruger Blackhawk? I have read threads where people advising to dry fire the heck out of them to loosen up the trigger, but I wanted to make certain there is no potential for damage before trying that advise.

No. In fact, as I recall instruction booklet, the Ruger specifically allows dry firing.

Thanks. I have not had time to read the manual, nor have I had time to take the gun to the range. I was hoping to do both today, but it looks like time is slipping away from me.

I have broken 2 transfer bars in my Ruger Blackhawk 45 colt. This took about 2 or 3 years of heavy dryfire practice. I usually keep extra parts on hand, but now keep a couple of transfer bars around. I plan to replace the transfer bar in my 45 when I go to Alaska and toss the old one. Just for insurance.
