Being a huge fan of FNs, I purchased a SA58 from DS Arms. I then found a Trilux scope mounted on a DSA Scope dust cover on Ebay. I mounted it to my rifle, and torqued down the set screws until I was afraid of screw damage. I took this new combo out and was going to test fire it. The new dustcover seems to be slowing the bolt carrier down enough that the gun will not feed, but stops about halfway through the cycle. When you pull the carrier back, you can kind of feel it rubbing, but I cannot find where. With the original sheet metal cover, the gun operates and fires fine.

I have sent DSA a couple of emails, but apparently, they are far too busy to answer a question from a customer. So, Anyone out there familiar with this problem and can maybe point me in the right direction?

I have the same dustcover on an Imbel paratrooper model and it works great!

First thing I would say is check to make sure the cover is actually aligned onto the receiver correctly and that all the pressure plates are in their appropriate notches. When I remove my DSA cover, I loosen the screws just enough to remove it so that the assembly is as "tight" as possible, and getting it back on correctly is easy.

You could probably put the cover on, then hand cycle the action before tightening the screws all the way down to see if it is binding that way.

Since you have two rifles and two covers, you could try swapping covers to the other rifle, and see if the problem seems to be limited to one rifle or one cover.

But, my guess is that the cover isn't on the rifle perfectly straight. You also will probabaly get a better response from DSA by calling them. Good luck.

I agree with ny32182, you should be able to mount the scope cover on your receiver, and the bolt carrier should slide right in. Mine has plenty of clearance.

You’ve probably got one of the pressure plates misaligned; it’s not that hard to do. I’d try remounting it and rechecking.

While I like DSA’s products, their customer service and correspondence is somewhat hit or miss. I’ve had Emails answered in minutes, and then gone days without a reply.

+1 for doing all the preliminary checks but if it still doesn't work you could try one other thing. The rearmost part of the bolt is most likely rubbing against the dust cover 3/4 of the way back. To find out further you could mark the rear part of your bolt carrier with a white grease pencil on the points most likely to contact. Insert it back into the receiver, and put the dust cover back on. Manually cycle it a couple of times and remove the dust cover. The grease markings will rub off the bolt and on to the contact points of the dust cover.

I have never experienced that problem with my scope mount because it slides over the existing dust cover. If you still can't find a solution you could always send Arizona Response Systems an email and see what they suggest. You can also give them a call but they ask that phone calls are by appointment only. Here's their email address: [email protected]

Good luck with the FAL and keep us informed on what happens.

I've found that a lot of companies in the firearm industry aren't very good at answering e-mail. IMO, the best option is to just call them. Good luck.
