The Type II was manufactured to increase the strength in a few areas where Type Is were having problems due to automatic fire stress.
So for Semi, it’s a non-issue. Also, the Type I should weigh a little less.
My SA58 has a Type II receiver just because I think it looks nicer. It also "Screams" "DSA" cause most in not all of the Type IIs I've seen are DSA recievers.
I'd go for a type 2 for the same reason as Chuck - to me, it just looks better, but that being said, there's nothing wrong at all with the type 1's. The type 3's just look ugly as hell to me, though...
Both my DSA's are type II. I picked them because they are stronger, but as a side benefit, they are also more visually distinctive/less common. I'd say the vast majority of receivers out there are type I.
