Price increases getting serious

" if things get really bad, I'd rather have $10K worth of guns and ammo stashed away!"

Now there's an investment strategy i can really appreciate!

Edit: Typo. 6/10

For us reloaders the cost of primers and powder have gone through the roof. So far it is still cheaper to reload. I also do cast bullets which is a big savings so far.

I just finished melting 628 lbs. of lead weights into ingots.

The bottom line is stock up on the primers, powder, shells, and lead now that they are still affordable.

from what i see lead is getting higher every day! and hard to come by, im going to buy some now just in case, *csa*:uhoh:

And copper and zinc prices caused the price of aluminum cased 9mm Blazer at Academy to go from $3.86/50 to $4.86/50 recently?

Any time the price of a commodity goes up, the prices of any substitutes for that commodity will go up also. This is not a conspiracy - it is the simple operation of market forces.

I'm definitely feeling it. It takes a lot of ammo to feed my new found IDPA addiction and since I don't reload it's taking a toll on my checkbook.
Looks like I may have to start competing with a 9mm and let the 45's cool off while.

Well then HighVelocity it seems now is the perfect time to start reloading. :)
I guarantee you will save tons of money (as long as you don't start shooting way more - which you might just find yourself doing ). Some folks even think reloading is fun (not me - it's a chore but I'm cheap and refuse to pay $20 for a box of ammo that I can build for $5).

Freight haulers charge primiraly by VOLUME, not weight. It will cost much more to send 100lbs of packing penuts than 100lbs of lead. One takes up a huge volume, the other not so much.

Plus a smart business would look for haulers returning empty to get the rock bottom rate. I bet the hottest business to be in now is a service that matches haulers deadheading back (emtpy) with ppl who need shipping.

Reload... pistol ammo you will save a ton of money. Rifle ammo will save you a BUTT-TON of money. Even against milsup ammo prices.

Gold in general is a lousy investment. My mother in law bought $10K worth just before at peaked at about $800 some 20+ years ago -- still can't get what she paid for it.
"Buy high, sell low" is lousy investment advice - for any investment.

Um...guys...there's a WAR on, ya know?
Like, the military is suddenly using up a heckuvalot o' stuff used to make ammo, and has been at it for several years like, ya know?

I just found this on Numrich Gun Parts site:

Notice to all Customers:
Effective June 5th, 2006 UPS will be removing the fuel surcharge cap on their small package air service. The initial impact will result in a 3.5% increase on all air shipment charges. This increase will appear on any UPS air services that you may request.

The fuel surcharge cap on UPS ground services remains unchanged, but the surcharge will increase from 3.75% to 4.25%. For the present, Numrich Gun Parts will absorb this increase. Please be advised that should these charges continue to rise we reserve the right to increase our shipping charges as required.

Sincerely,
Numrich Gun Parts Corporation

the inflation rate is going to be bad this year. i hope the price of commodities goes down, but im not particularly hopeful. i still think china has more to do with it than anything else. China and India are growing at an exponential rate, and i really think the next century will belong to china as the last one belonged to the US

I was at the Phila. Armory show this past Saturday. Surplus .308 was $250.00 a case. Wolf 7.26 x 39mm was $169.99 a case and Wolf 5.45 x 39mm was $200.00!!!
