Well, yeah. :). A smile before the new Board of Directors begins the grunting and straining and sweat and labor to get the Association back on track.

But we shall be lead by our new Association President, Mr. Beliveau!

Thanks! My role on the Board is a very small one. Just an assistant secretary position. But I'll do everything I can to support Mike and the rest of the Board. My personal goal in all this is to open and keep open lines of communication with the membership.

I think trying to do things under wraps is how the old board got so far astray and getting massive buy-in and participation of as many members as will jump into this with us is the only possible way we'll succeed.

Sure, but if that lets you decide that what the 95% wants doesn't count for anything and you go off into the weeds you shouldn't be surprised when they get woken up enough to put somebody else in charge. Then they can go back to sleep as long as everything's basically working OK.

With the demonstrated variety of shooting interests shown by both Mike and Sam1911 I don't doubt that the new board will do well.

And yeah, it pretty much comes down to what Eljay said just above.

72coupe, you sure aren't kidding! I've been IDPA Match Director here for 6-7 years and been with othe clubs before. I know how it goes. But if we needed another object lesson in all of this it would be that with 1,700 member FAMILIES in our Association now we could hardly break 100 members in attendance at our most heated meeting this fall. And the meeting in August that saw the adoption of the bad range rules only had 20.

Then they can go back to sleep as long as everything's basically working OK.

That's something we're going to have to fight. The new issues we have to deal with are going to be very expensive and involve hard decisions that won't make anyone perfectly happy. We NEED buy-in from lots of members who will listen and think and understand and decide.

Not 1,000 folks who don't know what and don't know why but sure know that their favorite range is closed and they are P.O.'d. Then we on the new Board get to inherit the resentments sown by the old Board. :(

Just from reading this, it sounds like Sam did a yeoman's job of rallying up the troops - good man!

And congratulations to Mike.... I'll be waiting with baited breath for the next video.

Meanwhile, I'm hearing in your words that there is a lot that absolutely HAS to be done; not just repairing the damages done by the previous regime, but also a lot of fixer-upper work on the property. Fortunately, your "new broom" crew has the right attitude, and you've probably gotten a huge amount of members interested again. That's always GOOD news.

My rallying of the troops is a contentious subject.

Since the end of the last week of August I've sent or received over 1,200 emails about this situation. I've posted many things on a variety of Internet forums and I've spent many hours on the phone and in face-to-face meetings. I've received some nice words of thanks.
I've also deeply hurt and offended some good friends, and dismayed and even disgusted a few more who've felt that my speaking out in opposition of those friends is dirty pool and un-gentlemanly behavior.

Personally, I stand by everything I've said or done. And I'm very cautiously pleased with the results. But I do regret the painful loss of camaraderie and trust among some of us and I do hope we will all eventually live past those feelings.
