Just got my first AR. I've read several times that I should blue loctite my BUIS as it'll shoot loose otherwise. Here's my question -

Where exactly should I apply the loctite? I assume that I should put it on the threads of the tightening screw, but I just want to make sure.

Thanks for the help.

I certainly would not put it on the clamp screws..
The clamp screws themselves are not going to come loose.

But, if I was going to Lock-Tight a BUS, I would put a dab on the clamps where they secure to the rail.
That will help prevent slippage.

On the otherhand, if you slide the BUS all the way forward against the cross slot in the rail and tighten the clamp, they simply can't slip foreword any further under recoil anyway.
That is why the Picatinny rail has cross slots in the first place.

A more common method to insure your parts say where you put them is to "paint them in".

That is applying a dab of white or other color paint on each clamp/rail, clamp nut, etc.

If they ever move again, it will crack or break the paint off and you can tell easily if there is a problem.

Unlike Lock-Tighting everything, this method allows easy removal if you ever want to take them off again.

A helpful hint.

Assuming that no plastic is involved, you can remove a "loc-tited" screw by heating the screw with a soldering iron or soldering gun. That will ruin the loc-tite and allow the screw to be turned out easily.

Just remember that the softening is probably permanent--if you want to reinstall the screw you'll need to clean the screw & hole & reapply fresh loc-tite.
