Duty and carry gun philosophies

I am a cop. I also had to buy my own stuff, so I had some latitude.

For my duty gun, I have a M&P 9 Pro Series with a Streamlight TLR-1 mounted on it in a Safariland SLS holster. I like the Pro, it has a beter trigger than stock M&Ps.

For my back up, I have a M&P 9c. This way I have the same manual of arms and magazine interchangability I carry it in a generic holster under my left arm on my body armor strap. I also had some of my buttons removed and replaced with velcro so I could get to it in a hurry if I need it. My department did allow me to get the Apex Tactical DCAEK installed, and it has a better trigger than my duty gun.

I wear heavy boots, and spend a lot of time on foot patrol, therfore I found ankle carry to be painful at the end of a shift.

Have you looked at any of the undershirts with holster pockets sewn into them, such as the 511 line? My son wears one over his vest and has a Ruger LCP in it....( this is a 2nd BUG for him, Glock 27 is on his ankle)

For years and years I have carried a Glock 22-C on and off duty. I have put thousands upon thousands of rounds through it without a hitch. For me, the 22-C has been the best and most reliable handgun that I have ever owned. It is with me so much that it is like a part of my body. I love my Glock 22-C.

I did look at those shirts, but it was a no-go for me. It ends up being too many layers and I got way too hot. Also, those shirts keep the gun a little lower, and having the holster on the body armor kept it up a little closer to my body and near the armpit like a shoulder holster.

Good point, though, because somebody else may like it that way.
