E. German Steyr SSG82 "Wall Rifle": Should I or shouldn't I?

BHP9, what on Gawd's green Earth are you talking about?

Sako and I believe Norma both at one time imported some of this boxer primed brass and you can also reprime berdan primed cases and even steel cases but they are generally good for one reload.

You can make cases from 6.5x54 m/s. Anneal case and form in two die form set. Cut case to length. Turn rim to .441" dia. and back chamfer. F/L size to form and swage base. Trime to length. Fireform in chamber.

Dude, what cartridge are you talking about, with a 6.5x54M-S parent case and a .441" rim diameter? :scrutiny: It sure as heck ain't the 5.45x39 AK74 round Tamara needs for her East German sniper:

Would it possible to post a picture. I would like to see what you picked up. I have a picture in my head but might be confusing it with something else.

Chris

As long as that other one is up for auction...

This picture should work, if only temporarily:

Here's a close-up view:

Back when they were $600 I thought it might make an interesting varmint rifle, provided you could get decent Norma ammunition for it. I really like the look of the stock and the trigger guard, but that scope mounting system screams "I was made behind the iron curtain!"

Cool stuff, Tams, let us know how it shoots.

Can't tell you how it shoots yet...

...but the check cleared this weekend.

Watched Ronin last night, then zipped across town today in my BMW roadster with Just A Job To Do by Genesis on the stereo and a Springfield Professional on my hip to go to a rendezvous in a rainy parking lot to pick up my East German sniper rifle. Sometimes, life is pretty durn cool... ;)

Bonus points for identifying all three movie posters on the wall behind the rifle... ;)

Chris Rhines,

Oh, nice rifle, btw. How's the scope?

What communism did to the sacred name of Zeiss should be considered a crime against humanity...

Better than a PSO, but more distortion than any BSA or Leapers I've squinted through, lately... ;)

Perhaps my eyes fail me.... are those TSR 2nd edition source books on the bottom shelf? Looks like SpellJammer, Forgotten Realms, and lo and behold some orange spined 1st Edition rule books. You know people who play RPG's are evil! :neener:

Interested to hear how it shoots.

An East German Styer SSG chambered in 5.45x39?!

SCHWEEETNESS!!

Tamara, do really cool guns always tend to find you, or is it the other way around?

My impression from reading her posts, is that she has a number of pushers. Ruthless dealers who have spent years cultivating her addiction by offering her deals and bargains. By now I would guess half the gun stores in the south-east US have her on speed-dial. :)

But I'm probably wrong. You're not addicted to cool guns, are you, Tamara? You can quit any time, right? :D

(I know, I know, this isn't me speaking, it's the envy... :p )

Sigh...

Okay, the movie posters (l. to r.) are for Pulp Fiction, Natural Born Killers and Reservoir Dogs. Atop the small bookshelves to the left and right are airsoft guns (an FN P90, HK MP5KPDW, and a Beretta 93R). The top bookshelf in the picture has my Gameboy kit and assorted physics and astronomy books, the shelf below it has the Sega GameGear, some model rockets, and FASA's Renegade Legion: Centurion stuff. Below that are various history and military history books, while the bottom shelf contains RPG stuff and paleontology and Dougal Dixon "alternate evolution" texts, as well as a rack of motorcycle mags and one of gun rags. The small right-hand bookshelf has baseball and automotive books and gun cleaning supplies, while the left one is a mishmash of paperbacks, computer game boxes, James F. Dunnigan military history tomes, and Army & Air Force FM's. I'm nothing if not eclectic... ;)

i'm sorry folks, that pink chair is completely ruining the moment of looking at a rare beauty of a rifle....

tamara, could you indulge at least just me and retake the picture against a different (perhaps more tactical) background?

And what do the other young ladies on the pom squad and Student Council think of all this? At least your parents must be happy that you keep your room clean.:D

(Don't take the above jibe personally. My life is just about as juvenial. At least you like quality fiction.)

I still can't get past those bright orange thingies that keep poppin' up in these photos..

((Is this supposed to be some sorta' subliminal message or what?)) :uhoh:

;)

Herr Stahl, you did not reckon with the magic of the name, "Steyr.":D It was a misprint on the 6 and the wholesalers picked up on it to move merchandise, see also, Bulgar Kalishiklones.:D It's all about the Benjamins.

Silly equipment-happy Americans. It's a SSShhhytire! It MUST be good--COOL! Iwannacoolgun.

I noticed those orange snakes in several of her photos, too.

Seem to be related to images of guns that require extra lighting. ;)

If ya wanna know what our esteemed moderator collects in role playing games, just look at the bids she won on E-Bay. Pretty good outlay of coinage, besides the BMW Z3, for being unemployed! :D

Beats heck out of Iwannasuckygunvirus. You really need some new material, El T! ;)

Move that FNC yet? Anything else that you're too cool for cluttering up the safe that you maybe wanna sell to fund a tacgolf vacation? I'm startin' to feel the jones again... :D

T. Stahl,

You're quite right... (Although that beautiful cold-hammer-forged spiral-twist barrel does remind me of a Mannlicher-stocked .243 Steyr sporter I once had the severe hots for... :D )
