While looking for a new barrel for my Browning A-Bolt I came across the E R Shaw site, I know most custom barrel makers have their own rifle line and they have always been crazy expensive, I looked out of morbid curiosity expecting to see 3k+ rifles, nope retail starts at only $725 FOR A CUSTOM RIFLE! Price maxes out at $1,250, now I am just guessing here, but that looks very much like a Savage action which I am totally OK with, and the trigger looks to be an Accutrigger, but the barrel is an E R Shaw and the stocks do not appear to be Savage models. Pricing out a custom Savage 110 build that does not look to be a bad deal at all, never owned an E R Shaw barrel but I have heard they are really good. Anyone ever do any business with them? Anyone know if they can re-barrel a Browning? Tried to call their gunsmiths today but never got through. Their barrel prices are downright reasonable.

Never done business with them in any form, Yet. being a Savage guy I probably will be buying one of their barrels at some point though.

the Mk. VII is built on a Savage action with accu-trigger, but without the Savage barrel nut style barrel attachment/headspacing method. the barrels are mounted/headspaced in the more standard method used by Remington/Winchester/ etc

personally since the ability given by the barrel nut system to swap barrels, and therefore calibers, including setting proper headspace pretty much at will (w/ proper tools of course) is one of the things that I like about the Savage Model 10 rifles. the Mk VII holds only minor appeal to me. for me It'd be like buying a truck otherwise built for off-road use and slapping SUV tires on it.

John Barsness did an article in "Rifle" magazine several years ago on the E.R.Shaw rifles. His was chambered in 6.5/06. He was impressed with it.

I have an E.R.Shaw bbl on a M98 Mauser in .257Roberts. It's as accurate as a lightweight sporter gets.

Only drawback to the Shaws are that all I've seen written up were HEAVY. Mostly 9-10lb rifles with med.-heavy barrels and laminated stock so they SHOULD be accurate.
Also, expect a 12-18mo. delivery date.....
Unless you want an EXOTIC cartridge such as the 6.5/06, stick with the Savage,Marlin,Ruger Americans...

Yeah I should have stuck with my proven guns, but I had never owned a Browning before and everyone I know that has one loves them, were it not for the bad accuracy I would love it too, handy little rifle, well designed and I love the flip down magazine. The action could be alot smoother but plenty functional, and the trigger is a little rough but I have shot well with much worse. When I do re-barrel I think I will do some exotic or wildcat just for fun, heck I might try another golden oldy like the 257, or the 358 Win that would make for a very interesting rifle not to mention one hellava brush gun. I handload and I am not really recoil shy so my options are pretty open so long as it fits in a short action.
