I had a chance to do a bit of gun shopping this afternoon. It is no secret that I'm a fan of the .38spl. It is about as much of a secret that I have defended Taurus based on my previous experience. So I was a bit suprised by what I found today.

I was in the shop looking through the cases and I saw an EAA revolver sitting right next to a Taurus 856. Now I will admit I blew off the EAA at first. I pretty much had my mind set on the Taurus before I got there.

Well I got my hands on the 856 and thought "Wow, it feels just like the Taurus I owned before." It was the same size and the same weight. The sights were exactly what I thought they would be. It felt very familiar. Then I pulled back the hammer. It felt like pulling a metal pole through wet concrete. The trigger felt entirely too heavy and grainy in single action. In double action the trigger pull was heavier than a Glock. Plus it felt like there was a hand full of sand dumped in it.

The EAA was obviously heavier and larger. It was more akin to a K frame in size than a J frame. However, the hammer pull was butter smooth and nearly friction free. The trigger pull in single action was almost scary light. In double action the trigger pull was crisp. It was weighted just enough to feel reasuring, but light enough not to cause gun wobble. The lock up was awesomely tight. My only complaint was the size.

The clincher was pricing. The Taurus was $375. The EAA was $295. Blindfolded I wold not be able to tell the difference between the Ruger SP101 and the EAA Windicator in operating feel. (Ergonomics are obviously different, but in the function department they felt very similar.)

Does anybody have any experience with the EAA Windicator snub nose?

No personal experience, but I did an internet search, and came up with some pretty negative comments. Again, only what I've read.

I have dry fired a cuple at my local shop when i was hunting for a snub nose. I ended up with a NIB taurus 85 ultralite. Id pay a few more dollars for some that aftermarket parts exist for. EAA just felt 'clunky' like an old 44 bulldog.

Vindicator or Windicator is made in Germany. Never had anything bad from there.

I read the instructional manual online. It says to keep the chamber under the hammer empty, like a Colt SAA, for safety. I thought that was wierd.

Someone had said the 357 Vindicator is made out of good steel but the 38spl Vindicator is made out alloy like pot metal. But this is just heresay.

There's a local store that sells a ton of them and hasn't once had one returned.... not sure if that's a ringing endorsement, they sell their fair share of phoenix etc.

IF you were to search for my older posts and read I would have said nothing but bad things about the windicator. I still dont think that it is a great gun, but i think some of them are. For example, an uncle bought one and it is a piece of junk. Horrible trigger, bad timing, rough action(like cylinder latching, etc). A real POS.

Recently a friend purchased one and brought it by. Night and day different. He has over 1000 rounds of full power 357 out of it now, and its still a good shooting weapon. We shoot at clay pigeons for target practice at 20 yards, and he can dust them with it.

I would have to say, depending the individual gun, they are good or bad. Just dont expect any customer service from EAA, they dont have it.

I have a few revolvers. One being the Windicator in .357/.38. I carry it more than my Smith 638. In fact the Windicator shoots just as good. EAA are excellent import firearms. They don't have quite the following as Smith, Glock, SIG, Springfield, etc. I have never seen online or heard a negative comment about them from anyone who has actually shot the Windicator. The Windicator has great balance and the grip is comfortable making the gun very controllable. At 7 yards loaded with .38 spl. I was hitting good three to four inch groups. I carry mine IWB. They are long lasting guns as well. The Windicator used to be the FIE Titan Tiger .38 spl. I have one of those too. Still going strong. Gave it my girlfriend. She loves it. I almost want to take it back as I write this. Many people will tell you that the Windicator is just a good truck gun, but I beg to differ having put over 200 rnds of .38 spl and .357 mag through mine, carrying it at least three times a week. I you buy one, then get the .357 also chambered for .38 spl. It's good to have the extra option.

I am in the group that has never had the first problem with any of my Taurus firearms. However I have never even seen a EAA gun in a store. Not big sellers here in North Florida.

Can't speak as to the the Windicator, but can for the 856 Taurus and own two of them.

Here's the scoop on both 856s. The Taurus 856 magnesium Lyte model is not rated for +P use, but that's been over come to a degree with Federal Nylcad 125gr. LSWCHP. The details are in the links.
