Do the barrels of an EAA Witness compact steel 40 caliber pistol have standard or polygonal rifling ? The gun is made by Tanfoglio . It appears to be standard but wanted to make sure .
Thanks for your help .

All of the EAA/Tanfoglio pistols based on the CZ pattern typically have standard rifled barrels. There may be exceptions. Why not call EAA or email them and get the correct answer rather than a maybe-correct answer? The website info on various guns doesn't seem to address the issue.

Do a google search on eaacorp.com and check their contact us page. (This site won't let me post a link to that location.)

Many of the higher end ones have polygonal rifling. My understanding/recollection is that the lower end ones, which would include the Compact Steel, do not.

I got a response back from EAA and you are correct , the barrels are standard rifling .
Thanks for your comments !

I wouldn't trust what eaa says. My older witness match claims to have poly rifling, but does not. It's fine with me as I shoot lead, but I don't think the folks writing copy or answering the phones for eaa know what they are talking about.

My Matches have had conventional rifling. My Limited has polygonal rifling.

The Match and Limited are more top-end guns than the one the original poster was asking about.

When I first replied I was thinking about the less expensive models -- like the one he was asking about. I doubt you'll find polygonal rifling in those guns. When he talked with EAA, he may have asked about the specific gun he owned (I would have done that) and not a more general question, so the answer he got could've been absolutely correct (and not someone speaking out of ignorance.)

I've owned a number of Witness handguns, including their older Long Slides (one in .40 with a small frame, and one in .45 with the larger frame); the Long Slides were the predecessors of the newer, higher-end guns. I've also had several .45 larger framed plain-jane models, one 10mm and a bunch of 9mm and .40s models with the smaller frames. They all had the conventionally rifled barrels. The polygonal barrels must be a newer enhancement (maybe the last 10-years or so?)

My lower-echelon ones have regular rifling. Last night I won an auction for one of the fancier ones. I am not sure of the exact model, but it has adjustable sights and is two-tone. When I get it in a few days I will be very curious to see what kind of rifling it has.
