Earmuffs and Ear Plugs worn together

There's been a lot of talk on the forum about ear protection. it seems that a lot of guys wear earplugs and ear muffs over top of them how many of you do that? is it just extra caution or overkill?

I take it you haven't been around USPSA open guns or comp'd rifles when shooting in an indoor range.....or more likely -- you've lost enough of your hearing already that you're simply not aware when muffs or plugs alone are insufficient.

If there was a practical method to wear a THIRD layer of hearing protection to further muffle sound I'd take it. One of the best decisions I have ever made was very purposefully protecting my hearing for many decades.
