Earth to the ACLU...

divemedic, as we are well aware with cases such as Miller, and the 4 dissenting Justices last week, the members of the SCOTUS do not under any circumstance have some special insight to what the Founders intended, and can and often do make grievous errors or even deliberate acts in contrition to the Constitution and BoR. The written pages of the Constitution and BoR are Truth. The decisions of the SCOTUS are opinion, no matter who says otherwise.

The ACLU made a conscious (and intellecutally dishonest) decision to reject the individual interpretation long ago.

I think that its unfair to characterize their argument as intellectually dishonest - I think that the "collective right analysis was wrong, but not in the slightest way dishonest. Can you be more specific about how it is intellectually dishonest - not how it's wrong, but how it's specifically dishonest?

Here is there statement on the 2nd - I think it;s wring, but please tell where where it is in fact dishonest.

I guess you mean their support of Political correct speech too? No, not free speech, controlled Politically correct speech is what they are for.

Can you specify the cases where they opposed free speech in support of politically correct speech? I am a member. and I think that they are pretty clean on this issue, and on free speech in general. Please cite some facts if I am wrong.

40 Years ago, some of the ACLU folks supported the White Supremest American NAZI party nut bags right to march. What have they done recently?

In 2002, they joined Jerry Falwell in a suit that struck down a provision in the VA constitution that wouldn't let him incorporate Thomas Road Baptist Church. They won, and his church was incorporated. That didn't stop Falwell and and Robertson from blaming 9/11 on the ACLU. :)

I don't know what they will do about 2nds Amendment rights. As a member of the ACLU and the NRA, I hope the ACLU concentrates its resources on non-2nd Amendment cases, and lets the NRA handle the 2nd. The NRA has the resources and expertise to protect the 2nd, and I would prefer to see the ACLU fight various provisions of the Patriot Act.

Should the NRA falter in its support for the 2nd, I would like the ACLU to step in, but the NRA is going strong.

This kind of reminds me of a joke a comedian told about the ACLU. "They're quite a piece of work aren't they, the ACLU? They won't raise a finger to protect your right to put up a nativity scene on your own front yard, but they'll fight to the death to defend the right of some crackhead to come up and f--- the sheep that you set up."

There are restrictions placed on speech such as yelling fire in a movie theater.

I wish this misrepresentation of "free speech" would go away . Yelling fire in a movie theater , when there is no fire is NOT a free speech issue . The person yelling "fire" is doing so knowing there is no fire and to create an environment of fear and panic . It has nothing to do with "free speech" .

Here is the official ACLU policy statement opposing "political correctness" speech codes on college campuses. It concludes:

There is no clash between the constitutional right of free speech and equality. Both are crucial to society. Universities ought to stop restricting speech and start teaching.

Come on sheeple - wake up! Stop quoting the mindless pap handed to you by Fox news. Read and think for yourselves - it's Independence Day. :)

Or at the very least, if you are going to accuse the ACLU of supporting political correctness, at least take 60 seconds to read their official policy.

Today you are free men - with brains! Rebel against the market driven drug addled right wing nuts who dominate AM radio, and think for yourselves! Let freedom ring! :)

It's easy to talk the talk. Might even take some token action.

But I have not, if ever seen the ACLU walking the walk.

Go figure.
